Yeah, I hunt in Louisiana so my season starts this weekend. I didn't shoot anything last year, but between my mom and dad they killed 5 bucks. I didn't shoot anything because with that we had plenty of meat to last us all year. Funny thing is, they hunted one of my stands two times before I got to hunt it last year and killed two of the bucks off of it. This year they aren't hunting it until I get to hunt it a few times.

Actually that wound is the worst I have ever seen. I only shoot a .270 150 grain bullet. Dont know why the wound was so big. Maybe got bigger after dragging it 50 yards as well.

Those are some nice little texas deer. Long skinny points, nice spread, small body. I used to be on a lease in Tyler and that is the way they are there too. In LA we have them swamp deer. 200+ pounds with heavy racks. I miss hunting in Texas though.

I have shot a few heavy horned deer but nothing prob over 180lbs. The heavy horned deer where just old 8 points though. We get some big bodied deer during the rutt but I shot these 2 after the rut after they were worn down.

Well if anybody wants to shoot me a doe feel free to, I don't get to go this year. However I did go to my buddy's wedding a couple weekends ago and it was at his wife's parents place and I learned a whole new lesson on big deer. Here's their website, it's pretty crazy: www.dndwhitetail.com

Don't know if you're joking or not, but if people didn't control the deer population, we would have so many deer they'd be starving to death.

be quiet, aim small, BREATH, aim for the shoulder or neck, have fun, and play dumb when it comes to cleaning. above all, you gotta eat the heart.

pretty sound advice except I recommend shooting the deer behind the shoulder, that way you don't mess up the shoulder meat.

I haven't been in years, however; I picked up a Remington 700 in 30-06 this summer just for this upcoming season I look forward to getting back into it after the long layoff.

...one of the best all around huntings guns made. super choice. i like a lot of powder behind a light projectile for a nice flat trajectory.
