You are right guilty or not any mess up from procedure can sometimes get your case dropped on a technicality. Definately worth getting an attorney over so you can keep it off your record.

You've got the ticket in your possession so you didn't need to sign acknowledgement. Its an easy ticket to have a lawyer fix though so....yeah its valid, and yes you're going to have to get it fixed.
