I don't know about "family" as it's a little expensive but Bess Bistro on the west end of 6th street is FANTASTIC
I would also highly recommend Salt Lick BBQ (Round Rock or Dripping Springs)

Hoboken pizza if ya want an easy lunch. It's my favorite pizza. its at 718 red river.
Floating the river isn't a bad idea either. Just stay away from the Guadalupe right now. Wayy to slow, if it's not all dried up.

I think I recall seeing a pretty cool go-kart/putt-putt/arcade place just north of Austin on 35 up near Cedar Park - can't recall the name of it though. Probably a cool place for the kiddo's (hopefully they serve beer/wine for you and the wife)

Go to Round Rock Donuts and get that huge *** Donut to share with your family. Also go to schlitterbahn as someone up there mentioned.. I have to say its by far one of my favorite water parks. There is also that bridge that the thousands of bats come out of everyday in the evenning.

Floating down the river sounds like a good idea.

The Dripping Springs salt lick definitely has a more authentic feel, but in terms of dining experience, I prefer the RR location. More AC areas, less crowd, food taste the same.
Hut's Hamburgers is pretty good. On 6th street, just before Lamar... right after West Ave I think?
LBJ Library on the UT campus is also pretty neat to see, if you're into history. Shows some stuff from LBJ's career. There's a replica of his oval office on the top floor. Free parking and admissions, probably can go through it in like an hour or so.

We also just opened up a winery for the wife to check out. We sell all the local wines and Texas beers.
