Default Mile Meter rate hike of 400%

So I bought my bird, my dream car. IT took me a 4 years to save for it. Naturally insurance is a must. In Texas you can pay by the mile. I went with Milemeter.com because at the most I would only put about 1000 miles on the odometer every six months.

Total cost for six month plan: $56.00

I got an Email last night saying that the now will require a minimum purchase of 4000 miles every six months. Essentially raising there rates by 400%

New Cost $224.00

They are going to loss me as a customer. Are there any insurance companies out there for those of us that only drive on the weekends and occasionally to show off to the co-workers?

State farm offers a secondary vehicle policy. Its a little more exspensive depending on your options. I think my dad pays like $38 a month for full coverage with all the lowest deductibles for his 01 dakota and his 03 corvette.

Look into Grundy collector car insurance. My quote on the bird and Z28 listed in my sig were about 150/annually each. Unlimited miles too.

I'd go Grundy - I pay about $218/yr for full coverage, $0 deductible on an agreed value policy that pays $18,000 if my Formula is totaled

I have heard tons of people brag about the premiums with Grundy, but never heard the outcome of one of their clients making a claim with them.
Now that I am curious about?
Until then, I stick with my normal insurance carrier(Progressive) and take advantage of all the discounts with them that I can.
I pay $283 for 6 months of full coverage on a 2002 z06.
I too put maybe 1,000 miles on my car a year and it's a "pleasure vehicle".
I'd rather pay now, than pay later.

Default Looking at grundys now

Looking at grundy now. Annual coverage for my firehawk would run $224.90.

Half the cost of mile meter without the hassle of emailing them my odometer readings. Whats the catch?

One of the things to watch with specialty coverage is the term "pleasure use only". When I pressed for what that means I found it varies by company but some said that I had no coverage if I stopped at a store and bought so much as postage stamp: "That is running an errand and errands are not allowed under pleasure use."

I think Tony is on Grundy, and I am looking to move all my stuff over to Grundy. Its agreed on value. So, no bickering on value.

Grundy is far less nitpicky - they don't want you daily driving the car, but they aren't going to deny your claim if you have a gallon of milk in the car.

So the quotes have been rolling in all day. Grundy is the clear winner. However Milemeter just told me that my current policy is good for the full six months. Best $56.00 ever. The woman who wrote me apologized for the change but told me that most of their clients are using 8000 miles per year. So they saw no reason not to set the minimum miles at 4000 every six months. Bad move on their part. At $.56 a mile * 8000 miles = $448 annually.

$448 AIN'T cheap. Grundy is looking like the clear winner when it's time to change over.

How about this, since they are charging by the mile, charging 1000 mile premium works even if people are driving 4000. The company gets paid either way. You don't **** off the pleasure drivers and everyone is happy.

Grundy or Hagerty is the way to go. But you can't use them if it is your only vehicle, and sometimes they want proof of a garage.

I just got another quote, this time form Gieco. $239/6 months. I have a garage and this is the third car. I keep hearing good things about Grundy but has anyone here actually made a claim?

I haven't made a claim with Grundy, but I have with Hagerty, and had no issues at all. My Dad was an independent agent for years and always had good things to say about Grundy. He placed a lot of his customers with them for their classics.
