Might buy my first handgun, input anyone?
Looking around, trying to figure out what I want for my first handgun. I'm not new to handguns in general, just I've never owned my own. May carry it with me from time to time but also have a little fun at the range with it. I've been considering the XDm 40 compact, I've heard good things about the XDs, and it seems like plenty of gun, but not overkill. Probably won't really mod it much so that isn't much of a concern. Anybody have it? Love it? Hate it?

guess I couldve mentioned price. Not looking to spend quite that much, although I know a lot of times you get what you pay for.
Doesn't surprise me to get 3 replies in 10 minutes to a gun thread in the texas section though, haha
edit: 4 replies. i should've seen that coming.

go to gander mountain or a gun shop and hold some. thats going to be the biggest factor. i used to want a usp 45 really bad till i held one and hated how it felt and how things were positioned. then grabbed a 1911 and fell in love.
its up to you, after you get a few you liked, then come back and we can tell you the pros/cons of each model/brand.

Dont like the look or price of a kimber for a beginner. Loved the Glock 23 & 32 till I held and put a few rounds through. Then switched off to xd40 and xd9. Xd40 feels some much better in my hand going through rounds. So for Christmas this is what I'm getting. Turners Outdoors has Xd40 &.XD9 essentials 3" or 4" with 2 magazines for 399.99 plus 3 extra magazines and a double magazine pouch free. Till the dec. 29Th

Shoot and hold as many guns as you like mentioned above. We can each tell you what we like and that will be different for you. I have a xd9 sub that I chose over a glock 26 because it did not fit in my hands due to the finger bumps under the trigger guard. I recently bought a taurus pt738 .380 that I thought would not fit well in my hands and was very surprised that it did. Of course everyone would love to have a kimber ultra carry, but this is reality and for the most part not all of us are rich. Also, a 45 is a great round if you never go to the range, lol.

If your going to conceal those guns mention are rather large. IMO
I have a Taurus Mel pro .40, just picked up a rugar lcp last week to conceal.
If your concealing and need the bigger caliber a rugar lc9 would be nice.

Don't just hold the guns in a store. Go to a range and rent them too. Choose based off feel, accuracy, and ease of concealment. My wife and I liked the P250 until we rented one and found out first hand why the FBI considers them as unreliable.
Since you bring up XD. You may want to consider the XD40 subcompact. Its easier to conceal than a compact. I've found that the longer grip is what will print, and the matchgrade barrel of the XDm isn't needed for conceal carry. Oter than the XD I'd recommend trying a sig P239 with hogue grips. People either like Glocks or not. I had a G27 that got sold for the XD40.
Once you decide on the pistol, make sure you get a good thick gun belt and a comfortable and secure holster. I use an Amish work belt and a crossbreed supertuck unless I'm carrying one of my pocket pistols.

if you want a .40 the gock 23 is the way to go, also if you want something a little better and faster the glock 32 is a bad *** gun and the recoil on it not has harsh as the .40. i wanted to the 32 until i found out that hpd only allows you to have .40 caliber guns... :/
edit: rounds for the 357 is a bit more expensive though compared to the .40, if you plan on taking it to the range often.
