Default Need good budget LS1 Heads...

I am looking to buy some heads for my Ls1 I am on a budget and want to know what are the best available assembled heads for my $. Also if I go with 5.3 ltr heads how much top end speed will I sacrifice? Please chime in and tell me what you think. Also could someone please clear up for me the difference in the 241 heads and the 806 heads? I see lots of 806 heads for sale but I do not know what they are. Thanks for the input guys.

I would not do 806 ...those are the early model heads which do not flow the best.... best bang for the buck honestly is a 241... you can buy those for about 100 bucks or so...i sold a pair last month for about 60 bucks!

241s like txh0tb0i972 said, and 806heads are perimeter bolt vs the 241 heads being center bolt. If you want to pay a bit more, 243s flow a bit better and have a ton of potential. If you can find 799 heads for cheap, go for those too because to my knowledge, they are identical to 243s.

Ahh gotcha, well on a budget I'm not sure about which aftermarket heads are cheap. I still do suggest 243's with some porting. They'll flow damn good once you get em CNC'd for what they are.

I'd go the 243 route unless U get ahold of a 6.0L or bigger then I'd go with L92 heads

Cheap, Budget, and Good...

One of these things is not like the others. Can you find the word that doesn't belong...

Or TEA.

You won't sacrifice any top end speed with 5.3l heads. You would gain additional compression though.

LS3 heads. Seriously. They have extremely good flow numbers right out of the box and their numbers can compare to many aftermarket heads.

I thought you couldn't put LS3 heads on an LS1 because they only fit motor's with a 4" bore? Aside from that I agree because I have heard that they flow great.

I seen a 98 formy run mid 10s with a set of sam grad ported 806s. In there stock form, not that much more different from 853 or 241.
Best bang for the buck is vj,backcut, bowl work and milled set of 243/799.

You are right, I wasn't thinking correctly. In the shop I work in we have an LQ9 with LS3 heads, my mind LSx wise the last few weeks has strictly been on 364 ci motors

Hah I don't blame you, there are so many interchangeable parts I'd probably get em mixed up too. How much better are the LS3 heads than the stock LQ9 heads? The LQ9 has 317 heads correct?

Stock form, ten times better...

AI ported 5.3s... 100$ for stock heads and 1200$ for a bad *** port job. They do work.

I made 468/418 with ported/milled 243s on my old H/C/I setup. Good budget head. There are 5.3s as well. After that you get into the more expensive aftermarket casting heads. You should state what your meaning of "budget" is, it's a relative term, and one man's budget is different from another.

Default Thanks

I am going to go with the 5.3 ltr heads, even better for my budget is my brother has a set of them coming off his 2004 GTO in about a week so I will get them super cheap. Now it is off to the cam selection woooohoooo.
