im seeing a lot of "decent" deals on old school amps.....but im not in the position to spend more than $75 on anything like this...my ol lady is watchin the bank account pretty heavily since the summer time light bill is comin into effect

Some of you guys are too young to remember the early glory days of boom. I was heavily into car audio back in 1988-92. Back then, the amp brands to get were:
HiFonics
Rockford Fosgate "Punch"
Orion
Old school! This was before JL Audio was even known about.
For head units, Alpine was the popular brand. Anything else and you were a poser. lol

Tony my older brother had that same radio in his Grand National,and I can still remember when he let me take that bad boy to prom.I still reme,ber carring that pull out radio in one hand and my beer in the other.Probably a pic somewhere at my parents of that night

also, my first 2 head units were Alpine.....and honestly, i coulda done without them. don't get me wrong, they sounded good and all....but neither one of them lasted longer than 2 years, and one of them was an $800 unit that was clearanced & marked down to $500, so it wasn't just the entry-level ones, either.
i've had my cheap-*** Panasonic head unit that cost me only around $160 or so for about 6 - 7 years now, and it's still rocking strong. i do wanna get a new one soon, tho, with bluetooth built into it so i can stream music off my phone without messing around with cables & ****, and one that can control my Sirius satellite radio (screw FM )

Those punch hamburgers up above is what still beatin in my sonoma. Oh **** the wife n I packin to move and I found one of my huge Linear power amps from back in the day a purple one gotta try it. Any amp that has 2ga cable from the factory used to put out some scary thump on 2 kicker comp 15's
