Default What is a good price to pay for a running 5.3L?

I want to swap out my high mileage motor for a 5.3 as my Camaro isn't going to be seeing any track time. I like to DD it. I want to put a 5.3 in it and build the current LS1 for a track car. What is acceptable for a running truck motor with the accessories?

I paid $450 for my 6.0 on craigslist. Complete intake to oil pan and accessories. Now thats a rare find though. But $900-1200 would probably be the norm. Check carparts.com or LKQ.

Not sure if the 1000 bucks is the norm yet, but at least I think the 5.3 prices have definitely gone up lately. Can't seem to find anything under 700 bucks nowadays.

It wasn't too long ago when they could be easily found for 4-500 bucks. I'm sure there are still some out there if you have the time to look and maybe have some connections here and there or just get lucky.

Now cue in the guys saying how they still find them for 300, or lower, all day long.

At that price, a bit more scores a larger engine. 5.3 are for the budget unless you have ulterior motives that make no sense to me.

Agreed. Just pointing out the warranty factor on a swap. I think the OP just wants a simple 5.3 swap.

I recently went this rout on my '04 'Burb. I wish i could have just dropped an LS1 in it but... WIFE lives.

I figure with the heads ported and an LS6 cam, it should still pull fine and get normal mileage. The LS1 can go in something I make fast.

Ls6 cam in a 5.3 pull to 6500 easily without ported heads, so porting will help.
