Default Any benefits to tuning a 12' tahoe?

Noticeable added power? Better mpg's? What are the benefits on the new Hoes being tuned and how much am I looking at?

Might be able to mess with the air fuel and get some better mileage. You could do a transmission tune also, taking off torque management and upping shift points and pressures. Probably won't notice a difference though being stock.

Curious myself, I got an '12 Tahoe. I was thinking about adding LT's, catted Y, quiet aftermarket exhaust, under drive pulley and a tune. Was hoping to get more HP & MPG out of the additions.

XP Racing in OKC did an "Econo-Tune" on my truck before I put the new motor in. It was the 5.3 motor and it picked up 2 MPG after the tune. Hope I can pick up more with the new exhaust system and pulley on the Hoe.

Try http://www.tahoeyukonforum.com/

The site is kinda lame, but you will probably find more tuning and modification experiences/results there.

You can pick up a good amount of power and torque...

Downside

You must run 93 octane.

I tuned a 2011 6.2 Chevy truck yesterday. 37 rwhp and 46 rwtq gain!

Pretty bad down side for some of us, can't charge 93 off on the company credit card.

I ran 89 when XP tuned the truck (prior to the new motor instal) with the "Econo Tune". It picked up 2 MPG and 18HP. I was happy with that on a bone stock motor with 142000 miles on it.

It even put down a 15.1 @ 89 MPH in the qtr!!

I think it would have ran faster if I had the windows up, too out the wheels in the bed along with a 3 ton floor jack and drinking a coke while waving at the crowd!

I have an '11 Sierra that is tuned, honestly the only difference I noticed was firmer shifts.

The new trucks benefit a great deal from tuning. You can make the 4 cylinder mode more aggressive or non-existent. You can vary the cam phasing to pick up low rpm power and top end too. You can reduce or eliminate torque reduction/torque management for stronger launches and faster shifts. You can raise the shift rpm and increase the top speed governor. Tons to be gained from a tune if you know what you're doing.

Any benefits to tuning a 12' tahoe?
Yeah. You'll most likely become the fastest Tahoe in your neighborhood.

you have a 12 foot long tahoe? well it's already shorter and i would imagine lighter than a normal tahoe.

My stock 2003 with a 4.8 gained 3 mpg on 89... throttle responds a whole lot better also.

My brother's co-worker picked up something like 3 or 4 mpg's with CAI, full exhaust, and a tune on his DD denali, and that was a 6.0

It doesn't seem like much, but when you're starting at 14-15mpg, that's around a 25% increase in effeciency. Plus, gotta love the subtle (but noticable) power increase.

Might be worth it to put a cai on it first, then tune it. Pick up a couple more hp and even more gas mileage in addition to the tune.

There are big gains from a tune and it can still be done with 87 octane and run great. The most noticeable parts are the transmission shift points, shift times, and shift speeds. It is like a completely different car with a great tune just like all GM products.

I have a 12' Suburban and my wife and an 11' Escalade - both tuned to run great on 87 octane

Mike or Pat,

I am sure you guys get asked a lot, but whats the deal with warranty claims after the trucks been tuned? Can a Tech 2 tell if the PCM has been flashed? I have heard conflicting stuff about this.
