What's the deal with Chevron now charging $.40+ more than every other gas station unless you use their card? Seems like a very poor marketing decision. I can understand if the non-card price was close to the competitors and the card price was cheaper than leading competitors, but no, the card price is everyone else's regular price.

Here is what I'm talking about. I did see a Chevron that wasn't doing this the same day, but most in my area are like this.
That bottom number is not the price of diesel, that is regular unleaded. Both deisel and super were $3.76 without the card. This particular station used to be the cheapest gas station on 529. The other gas stations on this day were $3.06-$3.09 for regular. There are about 14 pumps at this station. It was about 9am on Saturday after Balck Friday. Everyone was out shopping at this time and there was only 1 car at the pump.

I normally go to QT. Shell always seems more expensive and Chevron seems to be around average but most of the time QT or Racetrac is the cheapest. It could also depend on if it is privately owned.

Just a little info.
Kroger Gas is the same fuel you can buy at Chevron.
I spoke to a fuel truck driver one morning while he was filling the tanks at Kroger. (He came over while I was pumping gas in my '02 Camaro and we started talking cars)
Before we parted ways, he told me he was not supposed to disclose this information but he had just left a filling a Chevron gas station and I should feel confident I was getting premium fuel.
With the Kroger discount I average a $.30 less per gallon saving on 93 octane, compared to the local Chevron/Shell stations. Plus I put fuel injector cleaner in every few fill ups.
Do the math... $.30 x 13 gallons = $3.30 $3.90! (corrected)
It's not much but it's a savings nonetheless.
Right now:
Shell @ Fry Rd. in Cypress Tx. is 93 Octane = 3.799
Kroger in Cypress (290/spring cypress) 93 Octane = 2.269
I have spent over $200 there getting groceries so take an additional $.20 off
savings to be had today!

Chevron is usually high or the highest but I think it’s good gas or more specifically it has a good additives package. One time at the pump they had a display that stated when GM, Ford, and Dodge do all their emissions testing they use Chevron exclusively. That being said there is not a Chevron by the house so I add Berrymans B12 Chemtool every few fill ups no matter where I buy gas. That is probably a better deal than the Chevron additives.
The cash vs credit deal was news to me last year when I saw the Exxon station by the house change out there big sign. I understand this is very common in other parts of the country though. Gone was the price for premium and mid-grade. This was replaced with a cash vs credit price with about a .05 difference. Didn’t seem like enough to warrant the price of the new sign if you ask me. Not only that, within a few short months the price was the same cash or credit so wtf? However, since then they have been only a penny or two higher than the Racetrac across the highway instead of .10 or .12 like they used to be. Another interesting thing, the other Exxon which is across the highway with the Racetrac is owned by the same person and it has started discounting .10 a gallon if you buy a car wash. This all started when the Walmart was being built nearby along with a Murphy gas station so I bet it’s just marketing competition.
