Crap, after reading through this I'm afraid I over paid. I just decided to come back in to the f-body game. I was looking for a C5 Z06 but didn't want to pay that much. I just ended up picking up a 02 SOM SS A4 Vert with 4600 miles for 19500. Did I pay to much? I can snap a pic if anybody is interested. It's bone stock, just got my SLP lid as a first upgrade -

Let's review: 2002 (best year) - check; convertible - check; SS - check; 4600 miles - check; $19,500 - check.

Yep - great price for a low mile, desireable year, convertible, SS. Good score. Oh, and SOM is a highly sought after color, too. You done did good!

My first 4th gen was a 2000 Trans Am (non-WS6). I bought it in September of 2000 for $21,000 and it only had 4,000 miles and no mods. Stolen in 2006.

I then bought a 2001 Trans Am WS6 in 2006. It only had 8,000 miles. I paid $22,000. Again - completely stock. I wanted a low-mile, non-modified 01-02 WS6. There were some other out of state, but this one was here in Houston and owned by a member on Tech. So, I had all the history. Credit Union financed me, too (used the insurance money on the '00 for down payment on a house in a better neighborhood!!).

No worries, that seems like a good price. ****, its practically brand new. I wouldnt mind seeing a pic. And I also second the request for a larger version of your avatar pic. Do it for America.

Probably not since you bought it after all. A used car is worth exactly as much as somebody is willing to pay for it.

To you the price of this particular car was obviously good enough and that's all that matters. Enjoy. Sounds like a nice one.

You didnt over pay from what I have seen on the market and sold. I looked for a month straight before I literally stumbled across the car I purchased.

When I worked at a ford dealership on 2003, some a hole traded in a 2002 SOM WS6 6 speed with 650 miles on the clock. Could have got it for 18.5k. When I found my insurance would be more than the payments I had to decline. Would have been above ride to have.

As someone trying to sell a modded f-body I can say that it's a buyer's market for sure.

As stated before, all cars depreciate some more than others. Most domestic sport cars will retain value better than a typical average vehicle but in the f body case we have to wait out the crap and junk ones first. Thats when its going to come down to supply and demand.
The clean, stock low mileage original gems will bring some coin (more or less the anniversary ta's and anniversary ss's) the regular V8 ta and Z28's will bring money but i doubt seriously anything in or close to 10k unless we are talking 25+ years from now.

Im picking up NineBalls Hugger Orange SS the first weekend in August, I knew what I wanted without ever seeing the other F-Bodys for sale. I knew I wanted a HOSS, Im really stoked that it just so happen that Nineballs SS was for sale. Lawhorn had it posted up, But had a promise of Deposit, So I had to wait in line to get next dibs on buying the car & just started saving at the beginning of the year & kept my fingers crossed the guy in front of me couldn't get it. Well low & behold he couldn't swing it & I sent the deposit that night he said the buyer back out. We agreed at $12,500 for it, But the AC Compressor is on its way out the door, But it will still hold Freon for a day or so is what Lawhorn said. Anyways Im just stoked about actually owning a HOSS & it being Nineballs car. I don't plan on ever selling the car! It will stay parked & I will drive my 2000 Formula I call The Rat or drive my 92 coupe & just drive the SS to shows & car gtg's

Link to it https://ls1tech.com/forums/vehicle-c...orange-ss.html

But my point of the thread is I was looking at other F-Bodys to see what the going rate was & their are some nice cars going for cheap. A pewter 6Spd 408 Z28 for $11k & a couple other nice supercharged cars right at 15k & these are decked out.

Just surprised me how bad the market is for these model cars

Last month I picked up a 2000 TA convertible 6spd with 43,500 miles Carfax verified miles from third owner for $8,500... plus a 5 hour ride each way, and night in a hotel. It needs a few things, but so what... will give me something to tinker with!

But, with 4,600 miles, your find was well worth $19,500.

Again just want to point out that heavily nodded cars just won't bring in big dollars, you will always lose money. That's just how it is. The clean, stock, low mike cars are the ones that hold value. Sucks when you spend lots of money on a car and get Dick back, but its a fact of life. Case in point, my brother in law sold hos 93 5.0 for 14k a couple of years ago. Car still looked brand new, had about 30k miles and he had 20k in receipts for it. Stroked, blown, tremec, rear, everything. It had TOPS 2k miles since completion. Amazing deal for the buyer. That's how it is. People pay top dollar for cars that haven't been fucked with, modded ones forget. You spend that money for you and you only. That's the curse
