Tell me about state inspections!
I'm moving from Northern Indiana to Fort Worth in the next few weeks, we do not have any kind of state inspections here. I have a 1999 Trans Am, what are some things I should make sure are good before I go through an inspection? Never had to deal with them before. I still have my AIR and EGR, I know one of my O2's are shot but that's all I believe. Any info would be AWESOME!

Check engine light can't be on. Two incomplete monitors are allowed on a 99. Depends on the shop if they check for the emissions equipment, cats included. Safety inspection is the lights, brakes, parking brake, wipers, and horn.

Okay, sweet. My SES light is on but it's for the O2 sensor. Hopefully that's all it stays on for until I get inspected Thanks man!!!

99 is plug-in test only, no tailpipe. Like already said, you're allowed two non-ready flags. I'm not sure about DFW, but in Houston all emissions stuff has to be there. It doesn't have to be functional, just there (as long as your readiness flags are good). Long tubes are allowed as long as you have cats. No SES lights or active codes allowed. They didn't care about my cam either.

Might be up to the inspector. From the Texas DPS site. It just says headlights and beam indicator. I've never had a station check the high beams before.

high beams are headlights, it fails if I do it... read the guidelines further, it states that cars after 1948 must have multiple beam headlights meaning low and high beams... luckily I only have to do brand new cars now, I surely don't miss all the hassles with doing states on older cars haha

When I did inspections I would fail people for inoperable high beams. The way it was explained to me when I did my training was that the beam indicator is to be viewed as a whole unit. If the dash light works, but the brights do not then it fails. If the brights work, but the dash light does not then it fails. If both do not work, it fails. If both work, it passes. Easy peasy.

I'm curious about something, does it say anything about the headlights being adjusted properly? So sick of the douchebags in lifted trucks that don't bother to adjust their lights and blind my *** at night.
