Default Tips for passing emissions on a 15 year old car

Recommendations? Fuel additives/gimmicks they sell; do they work? Running highest octane you can get help? I plan to clear any codes right before pulling up to the facility. Only code the car had was IAC. The double limo tint is long gone and the car has CATS again. All other state requirements seem to be met as well.....

Clearing codes just before won't really help because the monitors will show as "not ready" and you will be told to drive the vehicle for 30-60 miles. I don't believe octane and additives would help out with with your code either.

Good luck Sir.

yeah, don't roll in there right after you clear codes. systems will not
be in ready status, and they'll fail you.

you can have 2 systems not ready, but the rest have to be. what codes
is the car throwing ?

If memory severs correct, only one not ready is allowed now.

I've put enough mileage on the car since clearing them and added XRP and fresh fuel and some Lucas injector cleaner. Made a few WOT pulls on the car to help clean out some carbon buildup We shall see come Saturday if it passes/fails

if you have a code scanner, you can see if the systems are in ready
status. if they're not, keep driving and check periodically until they
are.

I have fake cats and sensors deleted in the tune. I've never had a problem during inspections for past 6 years since.

The vehicle is allowed two not readies if it is a 2000 or older year model. This is because the is no EGR on many 01' newer vehicles.

Obd2 compliant cars (1996 and newer) do not go through emissions testing. Fuel additives had no effect on pass or fail

As long as you pass visual (in case they even bother to look for cats) and don't have any codes pending or present and not too many systems not ready, you are good to go.

They are supposed to visually check if they are present or check if they have been tampered with....but rarely do.

My 98 Blazer has two pending codes (P0171 and P0174), but so far haven't triggered a the SES light. After reset one of them (sometimes both) comes back before I'm down to two not readys, so I haven't bothered to drive to inspection place.

How are pending codes considered at inspection? Do they cause the inspection to fail? I have two monitors not ready (which is allowed for a 98) but not so sure about the pending codes.

I believe only an actual MIL activation will fail you.
