Default Ls7 2001 ss

Hey. I am going to start my build thread and ask some questions. I have a 2001 SLP SS. I have an LS7 left over from another project car that I had so I thought I would put it in my '01. I have done a lot of research and I still don't have all the information that I think I need, but I am going to do it anyway. I just ordered my SDPC wet sump conversation kit and an Improved Racing trap door baffle kit. I am still waiting for my MSD Atomic intake to come in. I have already had a Mast Motorsport cam and spring kit installed. Texas Speed also CNC ported the heads to a finer detail that stock and I have a 102mm cable driven throttle body. I also have all the stock Corvette Z06 front accessory drive. As for the suspension, I have collected up on everything I could get from UMI. Road race K-Member, tubular upper and lower control arms, adjustable rear arms, adjustable pan hard bar, sub-fram connectors, and Viking coil overs. I also had a Dana 60. Lots more but lets move on.

The engine has been sitting on an engine stand for about 6 years now. It was for my 1970 Camaro but that car is now gone. I would like some input, from somebody who has been in this situation, if I should take it to the machine shop and have the crank pulled and new bearings installed. If I do this, I will have the 24X reluctor installed at the same time for use with my computer. If I just bolt everything up like it is then I will use the Lingerfelter conversion box.

Let's just start here and I will go into much deeper detail later.

Thanks
Kevin

From what I’ve heard the conversion boxes are not really ideal. Not sure why. If I were you I’d pull it apart and install the 24x wheel. As for the bearings, if it’s just been sitting I wouldn’t go changing bearings with no wear on them, I would however make sure the cylinders are not rusty and if so change rings and hone it back out clean.

I have read where the conversion box has caused issues. A bandaid is a bandaid. I think I am going to change out the reluctor wheel. My problem is finding someone that I can trust to do the work. Thank you for your input.

Hey. Welcome over here. I have been working 50-60 hours a week all year getting ready for a turn around at a chemical plant. All that I have got done since March is order parts. After February, when I work 91 hours a week, I will get a chance to install them. My MSD Atomic intake showed up yesterday. I have been emailing Tony Mamo so I will ship it to him tomorrow. I guess I can start by posting a picture of what it looks like now. More to come. I have to get back to making some Ethylene Oxide right now. Cheers.

Hey. I have ordered some more parts. All of my wet sump conversion kit is here along with my trap door baffle kit. My MSD Atomic intake finally arrived. It is getting ported now. I will see if I need to do some clearance mods to get it to fit. I also ordered my 1X timing set and 24X reluctor along with some extension cables. Today I removed all of the old Corvette wiring and took the crank pulley off. Here are a couple of pictures. I had these really nice valve covers to match the Holley Hi- Ram set up that I was going to use when this engine was going into my 1970 Camaro. Now they don’t match so I am going to sell them. I now need to find a machine shop to pull my crank and install the 24X reluctor. Anyway, some pictures.

It’s tuff at times. It’s a catch 22 of sorts. You work all the time and collect up on parts but you’re to tired to put them on. I still have to finish my Laguna. I have all the parts for it but no time to bolt it together.

Hey. My rear Wilwood kit came in so I started putting that together. This weekend, if I get some help moving my S60 around, I will install them. I ordered the matching 14” front kit this week as well. I had to wait on finishing my intake until my MAP sensor arrives. I also ordered some more small things that I will need. I talked with a vendor about getting a T56 F transmission. Still saving up for that. I can’t wait until I find a shop to change my reluctor wheel so I can finish the engine. Anyway, more to come.

Well, I got some help moving some stuff around. My nephew came over and we put a fuel pump on my’86 C10 and a front license plate bracket on my SS. We cleared out some room in my garage to do some work. My Laguna project is on wheel dollies so we pushed it out of the way to make room for some Camaro fun. I was able to install my brakes on the S60 and work on my intake a little. I think I am just going to pull the crank out myself and take it to a shop

and get that reluctor changed. Anyway, a couple of pics.

Hey. Today was my birthday so I was pretty tied up. I had a chance tonight to roll the engine over on my stand and take the oil pan and pump off. After I took the windage try off I found the coolest bottom end of any stock engine in my life. This looks brand new. It would be nice if all engines came from the factory like this. Forged crank, billet mains, titanium connecting rods, and hand assembled. Here are a couple of pics. I still haven’t found a shop to take the crank out and do the reluctor swap and I am running out of time before I disappear until mid-March. Cheers.

Got a little done so far today. I did some slight adjustments and got the torque arm to fit.

That’s a thought. I will have a mountain of Z06 parts to sell after I finish this. I might as well sell the stock rotating assembly as well.

I have been looking at the 441 forged Compstar kit with Diamond pistons. I think that I might go with this and just sell the stock rotating assembly. With the heads, cam, and intake I have already I might be on to something.

I got my front brake kit in. I have to work tomorrow but maybe Sunday I can start putting that together. If I have time I will take the rotating assembly out as well. I need to sell that. Pretty soon I won’t be off until March so I will have to get back at it then.
