Talking My newest (old) toy

Well, I used to love to go off roading & used to have a 1980 3/4 ton 4x4 Chevy LB truck with a 400 SB & then later I had a 1985 with a diesel & loved both of em. I found out my aunt wanted to get rid of a few of their trucks & this was one of them.

It runs but needs some work. Has 160k miles, on it's 2nd engine since 100k miles, tranny has been rebuilt, but not sure when, most of the damage seems to be from it sitting up. The tags are over 5 years old. The window motors are gone. But, we did manage to put it in 4WD & go have some fun on my families ranch!

Also, I will be looking for parts for this truck soon, so if you have some, let me know. I want air lockers, a 6-8" lift and who knows what else.

What pink are you speaking of? It's a white & tan truck.

Yes, tires too but I'm already going to look at some my friend has, wheels as well. I'm not going with anything under 35"...I think I'm going to do the lift first & fit the tires to the suspension.........but that's only if I don't find someone elses setup I like & use it for a reference. When I get more free time I'll be looking for a K5 forum or at least a good off road forum.

line it up? it's got 5 years of gum & gunk in the carb, smokes, the window seals have the windows glued shut, lol.....this thing has sat up for about 5 years for the most part, maybe getting drove from one side of the rance to the other now & then when my uncles other trucks were broke down. I'm already looking into getting a new gen motor like a 5.3 or maybe a LS1 for it, I spoke with Brains & he was telling me all I need to make it work with the tranny it has is a modified converter. I hope so, because if it's that easy, It will become a LSX K5 before too long.

Dude, can it, you could beat this thing with a goped right now, lol. But once I get the LSx in it, I can always borrow the NX kit off the TA if you wana play that way. Or we could just get some chains & you can try to pull the Duramax around a bit

Marc, mask off the parts that shouldn't be painted and we can all come over and have a flat black primer rattle-can paint-a-thon. Then it would look kinda sinister.

Not all of us have as much disposable income to buy toys as do others. If you ever went off roading like I used too, the exterior looks you see wouldn't mean a damn thing. My cousin, god rest his soul, bought me a sticker for my old truck way back when that said, "Don't Be a *****"

Simply stated, all my buddies back then were into the new at the time, Z71's. They had them all lifted & pimped out but were scared to go thrash them but I was doing good just to have a 4x4. When I bought my 85 diesel from my mom's boss's construction company, I was in heaven. I probably spend as much time in it off road than I did on. At the time I was a field mechanic for a construction company so it also served as my service truck & I got to play on the clock as well as off.

Anyhow, there were a many of 'pretty' looking trucks that my 'eyesore' yanked out of the mud.

For someone that likes to build cars, didn't expect for you to not see potential. This thing barely has surface rust, and as far as I can tell, doesn't need any major body work at all. You bought the 69 already on the road to restoration.....while there's nothing wrong with that, most of the journey for me is in the building stage of a project. I think that's why I'm getting bored with the TA. I've got it where I pretty much want it & can't financially see it going much further. Building a motor is just not in the budget. I really want to go back to school & finish up a degree in something. I'm making good money now but the over time I work to get it is rapidly taking it's toll.

Anyhow, when I'm out climing or churning thru the mud, spilling beer all over the cab of my the 'ol Blazer, I'm sure I won't care how ugly or pretty she is as long as she doesn't leave me stuck in the mud.

I'm going to probably go with Sunset orange, or a black & silver tricked out two tone custom.......or maybe dark gray & sunset......I need to do some sketching & play with it, but that is a long ways off. I need 6 tires for the dually before I can even start on Blaze.

Marc,

Good start would be, loose the side steps, and ditch the hard top for a good soft top. I would also ditch the grill gaurd for a smaller one. I think those few things alone would make the truck look 10x better. With the LS1, they have carb kits, I'd do that for simplicity. They also have long tubes for the swap for passenger cars, I bet it would fit in that truck. I would love to own a 71-72 Chevy short bed with a LS1 in it.
