People should be yelling at the state 1st not our goverment, its not the goverments responsiblity to babysit the state of LA, they are only there incase LA askes for help which they didnt do until after the **** hit the fan. I didnt hear any reports from the Tsunami struck countries of people acting like these animals and they are in more poverty then these people.

No one did expect it- the hurricane didn't even directly hit NO, and the levees of course weren't supposed to break, or the city pumps.

I think the general attitude was "It hasn't happened so far..." and so it was completely unexpected.

OTOH, it is FRIDAY, the hurricane hit on Monday, and it hit Florida before that. Just knowing Katrina was going to hit US soil should have been enough to get our resources mobilized so that help could be sent it. Someone should have had a draft for the relief act a week ago, just in case- and just filled in the numbers and pushed it through tuesday.

I give up. There is no room for argument here, because anything rational said is falling upon deaf ears anyway.

I respect what you are saying Sherrill, this is a just a discussion, please continue to post.

I want to hear what other people that dont agree with me have to say.

I might be wrong, but its extremely upseting that the the great country of the USA are having these issues, we are always on command to help when its needed to our brother countries, but it always seems like when it hits home no one wants to take care of business quickly.

there's just too many of these refugees. I dont like it when some idiot starts talking **** and doesnt know what's going on. Reunion arena and American airlines centre are being filled to the brim here the dome in houston is full and they're still coming by the busload. There have already been reports of cars being jacked and being found broke down towards LA

Look all I am saying is that you cant explode at the federal Govt. They are doing what they can as fast as they can. The residents were given a MANDATORY evacuation notice from the local government and over 80% listened and obeyed what was said. Those people are safe and have food and water and shelter right now. It is only the hand full that decided to "ride it out" (a storm that was at once 175mph sustained winds) that are now screaming and ranting about no help. The Govt knew it was going to be bad, no one expected it to be as bad as it is. 100's if not 1,000's of volenteers are there doing what they can to help.

FYI:

This is a disaster issue not a political issue. So quit trying to blame the government and everyone else. People are doing what ever they can, however they can to help

How was anybody supposed to get in there directly after the hurricane hit? Impossible and you'd risk further loss of life. By the time the weather cleared enough to get there they started evacuating which is what had to happen, the primary concern at the time had to be evacuation of the elderly, cripples and small children. In conjunction with the evacuation relief efforts began but you have to remember NO is considered a large city both area wise and population wise so it is going to take some time under the best of conditions which are dismal at best. You can't just go in there and be unorganized or you will become a victim yourself. It takes time to organize an evacuation/relief effort of this scale.

With our government control, people becoming savages.

I am not saying go in guns blazing, but let them know that the US is still in control.

The problem is that 80% of people listened to the State of LA, and went to the superdome, that is where bodies are lined up, and people are dieing everyday from having no water or food.

Thats the problem they listend to what they were told, and are still dieing everyday.

If a business goes under do you blame the manager or the CEO?

I say they catch the looters and shoot them in the stomach then put them in a cage hanging in the middle of a center with lots of shops with a sign that says "looter" and see if it still happens

they were only rated for CAT 3 and CAT 4 storms

this is not a POLITICAL problem.. this is something that should have been more well though out with FEMA and everything else. the President can not plan on a CAT 5 hurricane to roll through NO

Not fast enough to be left w/ no food and water, especially when it is 90+ outside!
