and also

No, they don't. They have reviewed and planne for something like this for the last few DECADES. It has always been determined that preparing for a CAT5 or CAT4 would not be feasible. Not just George Bush. Not just the current Governor or Mayor. The last 5 or 6 spanning the last 20 or 30 years have come to the same conclusions. There is just now way ot plan for complete catastrophe.

Mt Rainier blows and all those plans will go right out the ******* window.

If it was a political issue you would have Democrats and Republicans screaming at one another about what is going on. As far as I can tell they are all in agreement. SEND MONEY GET IT FIXED ASAP! I dont see one side fighting with the other over what should be done and how. Everyone wants to help and get the people out of the cesspool that is now NO

they tried... cops were being shot in the head execution style and then people stealing their cars and boats. same with medical personell. The situation was horrible. They even were firing rounds at the national gaurd helicopters trying to drop in food and water (who would of thunk that) and pick up people stranded!

so you're all sitting here complaining so much about this, where the **** was your bleeding heart for the kid that died cuz he couldnt get a kidney transplant, where was your sympathy for the guy that was put to death cuz he couldnt afford a good lawyer. If you feel so strongly about this then get off the damn computer and go help. There are busses leaving every day to go help these people out, hop on one so we dont have to hear you people turning tragedy into your own conniving ideas of the government. This government and the people serving it allow you to do what you want, so stop critisizing it so much

mature remark.....

I am just presenting my point of view, this is a public board for discussion on topics such as these.

Agree or disagree with them, but no reason to be immature about it.

I am frustrated for the people that are suffering.

Why the HELL is our government taking so long to provided these poor people with Food and Water.

There is no excuse!

We live in the best and one of the most wealthiest countries in the world, and you mean to tell me we can not provide these people with these easy commodities?!?! We helped out sunami (sp?) victims in lest then 2-3 days?!?! But we cannot help our own Country!!?

DAMN IT this pisses me off, We pay taxes for unfortunate events like this, Money should not be a factor!!!

WHAT IS THE DEAL?

NOW so many days later we are providing help for these people, but the question is, how many suffered from the lag of the US taking so long.

I just read now, that the people that came to Houston are complaining....

Survial mode is setting in, and I feel for the weak.

Cheers

Guess what? Contrary to popular belief, its not the FEDS job to babysit the cities and states of the US. Thats the reponsibility of the state, and cities and counties(or parish's). They govt has to be asked for help before they can act, and then proper channels have to be gone through. IT LITERALLY takes an act of congress to get them money. Sorry, a singe person doesnt have the ability to write checks for 10 billion dollars from the federal Govt.

You can't compare this to 9/11. That was a few city blocks. We're talking about several hundred miles of coast line and a major city underwater here. Get your facts straight and put it into perspective before running off at the keyboard. Two major highways into the area were destroyed, which kind of puts a damper on getting ground vehicles in there in a hurry not to mention getting people out. And speaking of, how many of those stuck in there thought they could "ride it out" and avoided the mandatory evacuation order?

Believe me, he gets plenty of attention. He is just showing that he is much more of kind hearted person than you, obviously! He is simply stating his frustration, and a lot of people agree.
I am 100 times more compasionate w/ animals, but in this case, I do feel sorry for those people stuck over there w/ no means to survive. I don'[t feel sorry for the ones that are shooting at others, and causing criminal mischief. So they were warned to get out. Most of them were too poor or old, or whatever the case may be. You and I don't know that, but in the end they are still human beings and deserve the right to ******* eat and drink!

Dropping Food and water via air to the people at the superdome would have been to much to ask?

News casters got in, the 9/11 was brought in cause even the mayor of NO threw it in. And I brought it in on the basis of one man taking a true leadership role and getting the emergency and police crews organized to make sure civil order was maintained. NYC could have feel into total chaos if that structure wasnt in place. Riots could have broken out and mob mentality would have been the new law without the command struture that was in placed

it was not an immature comment. it was called trying to lighten the mood. Seems as though in every post you are now trying to make it a personal attack on me because I disagree with you and aggree with %95 of the resot of what is being posted! People are helping as fast as they can. like someone said earlier you can't plan for catastrophe! you can only hope for the best and hope that the worst isnt going to be that bad. Unfortunately the conditions there are horrible. Since the state government isnt doing anything but sending out "SOS" messages the federal governement is taking control! What amazes me is that when Andrew hit Florida 5 years ago you didnt see Florida going crazy and shooting people that were trying to help. No they were as calm as one would expect for the situation and delt with it, and while they dealt with what was given to them the feds were preparing and acting as fast as they could to get them help. If I remember correctly it was 2 weeks after Andrew hit before any money for help was passed by the house and the senate.

Where are you going to drop it? In 5 feet of sewage-filled water, and with people on the ground shooting at you?

You're blaming the wrong folks. Would everyone like to see the govt. respond faster. Yes. Can they (I guess thats a matter of opinion). One thing about the military (in this case, the guard) is it doesn't go in without the force it needs, a plan, etc... A small minority portion of the population has decided to loose all sense of common decency and lash out at society in all sorts of anti-social behavior. So, the cops and military aren't going in under fire plain and simple.

If you want water at the Superdome you have to walk up to the freeway ramp outside to get it. Many folks feel that is too far to walk....
I understand your point about the old and infirmed. But, I don't understand why perfectly health folks have decided to sit in one spot rather than just simply walking out. I've seen plenty of folks who have enough energy to run up to the camera and scream about how bad the situation sucks.

The average person can walk 3 mph. You can ride a bike about 15mph. That means 14 days to walk to Houston, or 3 days to ride a bike....

As for the mayor of N.O. and the Govenor of LA I have heard anyhting out of the mayor except for a lot of inflamatory rhetoric thus far. Folks attack the Corp of Engineers for not responding faster. Do you want them to install a fix that fails right about the time they get the city pumped out?

The levee system is earhen dirt works which in many cases were built with whatever trash folks had 100+ yrs ago in many cases. You need to make sure the fix is not worse than the origianl issue.

Rather than complain about not enough being done, go help out...
