Default Anybody own a bowlfex, or know about them?

They are on sale right now and I just was wondering what you guys know about them. I am about 170 but I am wanting to gain weight and muscle, will this machine help me do that or is it just strictly for everything but that?

I own one. When I actually use it for exercise (and not just hanging pants), it works really well for muscle tone and definition, but doesn't do as well in the mass building department. Free weights are still your best bet there.

I bought mine with the extra 50lbs I think it works great for mass, but I also use free weights. You can't just get away from not using free weights. Its seem like you can lift more weight with the machines, but when you try with the free weights you'll notice you can't lift as much, prolly cause "stabilizer" muscles aren't really used with the bowflex type machines. But its better then going to the gym cause your at home!!!!!

yeah, see I dont want to go to a gym because i dont have time. I need to start working out again because I am losing all of the muscle I had gained. I just dont want to get it if it will make me a little skinny cut dude. I want to gain muscle, gain arm size, and all that good stuff. I know free weights are the best but I dont have time and I have heard so many people talk about the bowflex. Anybody wanna sell me one?

I've used one before. It was just too awkward to get into position with heavy resistance on it, like when doing bench press. It's fine for toning up, but free weights are going to be your best bet for putting on mass. I'd check into a machine system that has a few stations including the Smith machine. It'll allow you to have a safety incase you are working out by yourself. That's my best friend in the gym b/c there usually isn't anybody there who could pull the wieght I was doing off of me if I got in trouble.

bought mine from a guy at work for 400 bucks, it's the model before the current Extreme they make, mine has the extra 200 lbs or whatever and leg unit. Like Chupacabra said it's great for hanging pants but it does work, I had my doubts until I tried it. Can't be freeweights for mass but you can gain from using a bowflex correctly, maybe not as fast, but it's a great piece of equipment if you can get it on sale. I don't believe they are worth 2000 grand.
