Check this thread, same subject https://ls1tech.com/forums/generation-iii-external-engine/500130-uncatted-car-ticket.html

Sounds like there is a fine and it seems pretty steep, but I think it depends on the state/county and whether or not the cop is a dick. But I wouldn't really worry about it to much.

im not some little school girl that is scared...lol. i was just wondering what the fine would be if i get caught. there are the sniff things that are on some on ramps in DFW though. i guess that i will just have to be sure and let them know when i go bye i might just make some heat shields out of some sheet metal at work and weld them on the outside of my y pipe to be extra stealth. or i might just go and get some true duals and roll like you.

Was this a local or trooper? I'm betting a trooper would impound your car and take the inspection sticker, possibly even your plates away until you made the car legal again.

I heard the fine was $500.00. The Cedar Hill cops have no tolerance for this. I let my husband drive my car there one day and apparently he was making himself known on purpose so they pulled him over. They asked him if he had cats, he said yes, then they got down on hands and knees and seen that there wasn't. The cop got back up and said to never bring the TA to that town again, and that if we did he would find anything and everything to ticket us for. I have found that if you do not make yourself known and "get off the gas" in the presence of, you are usually fine for the most part.

i got puled over a couple weeks ago by a state boy on my way home for no front plate and i closed my cutout and turned the car off right as i got pulled over so he didnt smell my beast. i had the laptop out doing some loging and he thought i was watching a movie while i was drving, lol. i told him i was tuning for better MPG and he got all interested in it and gave me a warning.

i still have a cat on my car, but its hollowed out. so it gives the appearance of being in use ( and its ugly as sh.t ) , but its saved me alot of tickets.

I know that if a shop gets caught removing or damaging cats, its a $10,000 fine for the first offense, $25,000 for the second and loss of business license...

Now find me the laws pertaining to vehicles over 25 years old er made before 1984.

I know for emissions you don't need to check them pre '84 but I dunno if its against the law to not have them.
