Chris,

You looking for an AR?

I picked up the pieces from a local place called Northwest Houston Tactical. The guy's name is Randy Cosby, and he is very helpful - do a yahoo yellow pages search. I picked up the lower for about 250 and then bought a new upper (RRA middie) for another 5-600. He might have something used. He does lots of trading/bartering at gun shows, so he might be able to hunt something down for ya.

What are you looking to spend?

Its pretty warm out, so i haven't been able to shoot much. They are a blast .

The main reason im looking is b/c i have a 17 HM2 and a 22-250 and a 22LR.

Im going on a prarie dog hunt in a few months and know the 223 is a perfict gun, but im tore b/t an AR and a tactical rifle........

Decisions Decisions.

A bolt gun will be more accurate than an auto, that 22-250 ought to be a fairly good dog gun if it's accurate. I took a Thompson Center Contender carbine in .22 LR match and reamed the chamber to .22 Mag and then mounted a 4-14 X 40MM scope on it. It drives tacks at 100 meters but I doubt it has the accuracy required for dogs at long range. I have a pre ban Colt Sporter AR-15 HBAR Competion model but I'm not sure I really want to sell it.

I'll sell you a left handed Stag Arms M4 w/ removable carry handle for $950, less than 300 rounds through it. I'll throw in my Sig P228 for another $650.

This Hurricane kit could be yours if the price is right...

Ok well I'll let you in on a secret, I bought it for 785 new and this is an expensive model. I'm not sure if the guy has the special still going on but the lower cost $225 and the upper, which cost more because it's left handed and the popular M4 style, cost $570...I think you could get the non-carbine style right handed upper for $530 or so bringing the total cost to something like $755. Stag Arms is the same company that manufactures Rock River Arms parts, very nice quality.

When talking about colony varmints .223 is very popular. I'm an avid benchrest shooter and like playing with the varmints up north. Depending on how much you want to spend, the AR is extremely accurate. It's not uncommon for the higher end models...Les Baer, Wilson Tac., RRA, Bushy ,and few other to hold .5 groups at a 100yrds. If you're in the mind set of a bolt....buy a used 700 and have very quailfied riflesmith re-barrel it any hammer forged barrel...Kreiger, Shilen,...so on.

PM me and I'll give you some sites that are geared to extreme accuracy.

You need to add a scattergun to complete the hurricane package!

I know! I was actually looking for a Remington 870, last night on gun broker the one I was gonna get jumped from $140 to almost $200 so it wasn't that great of a deal anymore.

So, get the 870, and Jim Pruett talked me into getting an AK for a trunk gun.

Son, one day I will show you where you came from.

In regards to the guns, I may talk to that guy about the M$.

I know another guy that has his dealer liscense and get pretty much everything at cost, but im still torn between a carbine and a bench gun.

How accurate are the AR's out at 150-200 yards, and I guess you shoot them with open sites?

Totally depends on the ammo, I've been using cheapo Monarch ammo and thats good for about 6MOA @ 100 yards. SS109 is the mainstream military stuff and that runs about 2 or so MOA @ 100 yards. A few different manufacturers make consistant ammo capbable of a little less than 1MOA.

Most decent AR's will get 1MOA or less with good match grade ammo.
BBad I take it you do know praire dogs carry bubonic plague, I think I'd want to be as far away from them as I could get. I built my T/C Contender for shooting Turkey, it will group 5 rounds in the size of a thumbnail at 100 yards, not to bad for a .22 mag and it's real cheap ammo.

Yea 22 mag is a great gun, I built my .17 for the same reasoning.

Hopefully the price of ammo will come down eventually!

LMAO, just making sure. Dogs are great fun to blast from longer ranges, they just stand there and look around until another one flips *** over elbows about 5 times when it gets hit, then they scurry.
