Hmm well a 600 should do just fine. I just bought a R6 this year, I can only imagine how insane a 1000 would be. I would have to agree, that a 1000 and up is a death trap, cause my bike hauls *** and handles like it is a rail LOL

Brandon Boomhauer, whoa buddy or should I say DAD. I've been wanting a bike for the longest time and I think I'm about ready to purchase one. I know that I can't drive it everyday because of weather, but every chance I get, I plan to. I spend $260 a month on fuel for my diesel truck. Have I done the math...no, but I'm sure a bike payment and insurance is going to be cheaper than $260. The only gear I'm going to need is a helmet, I don't plan on racing the thing. This thread was geared towards helping me decide on a brand and model, not justify whether it is going to be cheaper on my wallet or not.

Ravenous T\A, the 900RR I mentioned, it was a '97 model, so if you're saying a lot has changed since '01, I bet even more since '97. I do remember the 900RR weighing in at 397 lbs. and the GSXR1000 weighs 365 lbs. That is extremely light in my opinion for a 1000.

To others, I'm not set on the 1000 yet, I like the 750 as well. Keep the comments, suggestions, and opinions coming, but please, leave out the negativity.

It does rain down there (last I checked) and if it gets fairly cold in the winter, I doubt youll ride it then. So how exactly will added payments be better for you over paying a little more at the pump?

Just curious, it doesnt make sense to me, maybe I'm over looking something here...
Good point. It isn't a worthy investment if "saving gas" is the reason. Quick math:

$10,000 bike
$500 gear
$1000 yr insurance (est)

= approx $11,500
= approx 3,951 gallons of diesel (at $2.91/gal)
= approx 75,000 miles worth of fuel in your truck (at 19 mpg avg)

hmmm...... something to think about.

Well your gonna still need at least (besides a Good brain bucket) is a good jacket. No matter how much or how less you drive your bike, too many idiot cages on the road. I wear my jacket even in 100 degree weather. Bitches and tools on cell phones are all over the place!!! What ever you get man....Be safe

I would not say that one 1000 is superior to another. On the street or on the track you could not tell the difference in performace and handling. Unless you're fast club racer you won't know the performance difference between any of these bikes. It's your choice on which one fits the best, looks the best, or you can get the best deal on (consider 1 or 2 Y.O. bikes - you can save 2-3k). I currently ride an R1 as a street bike, and smaller bikes on the track. In my opinon, the R1 is probably the best looking sport bike (short of the high $$$ euro bikes and the new R6) out there. As for riding on the street, I prefer 1000 over a 600. But that is just a personal preference. Any 600 is crazy fast, and it's plenty for the street. The reason I prefer 1000 is that I ride 2 up quite a bit, and 1000 just has more torque and I don'tneed to shift as much.

Plus its been while since you owned a sportbike (CBR900RR) my old 01 750 would smoke Honda's and alot has changed since 01', Suzuki makes some of the most powerful bikes on the market right now. 750 is a just right sportbike (plus you can always mod it if it isnt enough )
I couldn't agree with you more

OK, I've read what you're looking for and what everybody has said regarding getting a bike. Some things that jump out:

1. You aren't going to race it
2. Looking for a nice, economic alternative to the truck
3. Used to CBR900RR power.

Ok, first, I think that the GSXR1000 is too much for this purpose. The bike is great for what it is, but seriously, it's a track bike. My friend had one and while it was fast as ****, after riding a while all-out, you get tired of the race ergonomics. Now, he has replaced the Gixxer with a 'Busa. This bike is much nicer to ride around town, much more comfortable, still looks cool, and go look a bat out of hell!!

But, there are other bikes that are great choices. Look at these in person before buying:

1. Suzuki SV1000
2. Honda 919 (*the old CBR900 motor)
3. Honda VFR (ok, just because I have one!)
4. Triumph Speed Triple or Daytona 955i
5. Honda VTR1000 Superhawk or RC51

These all are great bikes that aren't crazy race bikes (except RC51). Check them out, take your time, and be safe. Speaking of, like it was mentioned above, please get a good jacket and gloves. Road rash ain't nothing to be proud of!!!

For your case, 1000cc is totally image. A modern 600 will keep up pretty damned well with a 900RR. If you were going to the track, I'd tell you you're crazy for getting a 1000. Yes, The GSXR 1000 is incredible. All of the modern liter bikes are bad ***, but if you're really getting it for crusing and commuting, why not save a couple thousand dollars and get a 600? If you really can't handle the thought of riding a 600 or maybe you're a big guy, roll with the GSXR 750. Just my $0.02.

If I were you, I'd get the fastest most unsafe bike out there. Deflate the tires, ride on a gravel road at 70MPH then... BAM. No more of your stupid *** posts. Champagne would fall from the heavens.

Here are some thoughts from 1K owners and other Gixxer owners.

Nine Ball, the way I did the math was,

Roughly $100 a month for the bike
Rougly $50 for liability insurance
Total of $150 per month

Diesel for a month, $260. So roughly a $150 savings by the time I pay for gas on the bike.

Ravenous T\A, I didn't think of a jacket, hopefully when I go to wheel and deal on a bike, I'll see if they can throw in the helmet and jacket as apart of the deal.

BAD2000TA, I hear what you're saying about a GSXR1000 compared to a Busa in its comfort. My neighbor says the Busa is so comfortable and could ride it for hours compared to his GSXR600 he used to have. I wouldn't mind having the Busa, but just too heavy in my opinion and I don't think I would like the handling.

Liability on a bike is def cheap as hell. But if your bying a brand new bike, why make that sacrifice? Also, insurance on a 600 is a lot cheaper then the 750 and 1k's. The new r6's are pretty much an all out track bike. The powerband on these is small and in higher rpms(duh) and that just doesnt sound like a good cruiser. The suzuki's and honda's have very smooth power and seem like a better cruising bike.

Another thing you need to look up is your health insurance. Make sure it will cover bike accidents.

In the end get the bike You like the best. Mine personally is the gsxr750.

I just bought an 06 1300r. I looked at the 1000r but the busa's only $100 more in msrp. I've had every size of bike starting with a 1995 cbr f3 and up to the last one being a 929. I was afraid that the busa would be tough to play and corner with. I know the liter bikes will be more agile, but i was definately suprised on how well the busa handles. You really don't feel the extra weight unless you are stopped. It's definately more comftorable to ride to work as well. Oh and 175hp gets up and goes.. the only thing keeping you on the bike is the lip to the rear seat.

Sounds more like an ego/status purchase, not a useful one. Nobody is going to rag you for buying a 600 or 750, those bikes are still respectable and quick enough for 99% of the population.
I have to agree with everyword....Unless you are like me 6ft 1in, and over 250lbs...600 or 750 would bw Ideal. They both get over 30mpg....**** I wouldn't knock ya for getting a Dual Sport like a Kawasaki KLR650....

I had a similar post typed out too, but I figured someone could see it fairly easy so i nix'd it.

Drag, if you've been wanting one, then go for it, just dont use the fuel milage excuse, its pretty easy to see its not feasible.
