Hand Gun question
I moved here from Maryland last year .. ..
do I need to register my hand guns in any way. not asking about concealed carry ..
just to simply have them in my house, and to transport tem to and from the range, do they need to be registered?

Nope... welcome to an actual free state. The only licence or registering you must do is if you intend to carry concealed. When transporting your firearms keep your Ammo and weapon seperate (ammo up front and weapons in trunk or back). You will have no problems with that.

what jared said....no registration required for firearms.
you can carry long guns in your vehicle without any issues, loaded and all. no restrictions on it.
also, you can travel with a handgun in the state of texas in your vehicle if you meet certain criteria, without a concealed handgun license. However, down in the Houston area there is a District Attorney(for Harris County) that has already said he will prosecute individuals found traveling with a handgun without a CHL.
Here is the statue regarding the stipulations you need to meet to be considered "traveling":
However, as easy as it is to get a CHL, its a good idea. It is also a good way to support 2A in Texas, that movement is definitely growing. The more CHL's we have, the better off we'll be. Let me know if you want some more info on getting a CHL.

(i) For purposes of Subsection (b)(3), a person is presumed to be traveling if the person is: (1) in a private motor vehicle; (2) not otherwise engaged in criminal activity, other than a Class C misdemeanor that is a violation of a law or ordinance regulating traffic; (3) not otherwise prohibited by law from possessing a firearm; (4) not a member of a criminal street gang, as defined by Section 71.01; and (5) not carrying a handgun in plain view.
