Default What kind of weird stuff do you do (OCD)?

Everybody has Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) to some degree.

I was wondering what little things you guys just have to do.

You know what I'm talking about.

Those little habits.

I'll start:

1) When in the car I am always pulling the floormat in the driver's seat back.

2) I always make sure my cigarette lighter in the car is turned the right way.

3) I am always making sure the printing on the oil filter cap is aligned with the valve cover.

4) When drinking a soda, the label has to be facing out.

5) When I wash one of my cars I take the wheels off so I can clean the backside of them and the suspension parts.

6) When I park my car. as I walk away from it have to stare at it a few times

at home

7) I have to have a fan on to sleep! or I have a difficult time falling asleep

I know, I'm a bit strange.

I've probably got more, but thats enough for now.

I'm sure someone out there has some good ones.

The only one I can think of right now is if I tap something once (on purpose or on accident) I have to tap it 3 more times. I do things in fours. Whenever I get a call and hang up I hit the end button 4 times and If I think I missed one I hit again 4 times.

I also do things in 4s. Also if i go higher than 4 i do 16. Everything has to be even numbers. If i eat olives it's multiples of 4. Also everything pretty much has to be at 90 degrees or parallel. Like in my room i might have a big stack of magazines but they'll either be side by side and perfectly stacked or against eachother 90 degrees. I have alot of stuff i do like that but those are the weirdest.

i usually park the car with the front facing outward. i have to have the cig lighter turned the right way, when i park tires have to be straight, letters on oil dip stick turned the right way. i like to see all the guages so i tilt the sterring wheel down when i get in and up when in getting out. after a wash and i clean the inside i face the ac vents one to the left one center and the other to the right. just a few

Wow some of this **** is pretty funny

I guess the only thing I can think of is when leaving the car from a parking spot I glance at it a few times. I don't think it has anything to do with obsessive compulsive disorder, I think I just want to look at it and make sure everything is clean

Car-related:

  • Cigarette lighter - Cigarette logo faces straight up, with the "smoke" at the top
  • Open door, get in, close door, drop house keys in cupholder, push in clutch, push in brake, turn key to on, wait for fuel pump noise to stop, start engine, turn off radio, buckle seat belt, lock doors, lower steering wheel, lock doors (again), put car in gear, go. Every time. Exactly the same routine. It has a rhythm to it.
  • Oil filler cap has to be aligned correctly (even if the rest of my engine bay looks like hell)
  • When washing/drying/polishing, the last direction of the mitt/towel/polisher is always the same way. On side panels, straight up and down. On the roof/hood/spoiler, front to back.
Music/trumpet playing
  • I'm constantly emptying my spit valve. Any of you who were ever in band know what I'm talking about.
  • Everything about the way I play the trumpet is based on routine and muscle memory. Mouthpiece has to be dry, lips have to be dry, mouthpiece has to be "clocked" (turned so that my lips hit in the same spot every time, even though it's a perfect circle, so it doesn't really matter), hands a certain way...everything. I'm really picky about it. And that's one of the reasons my students hate having me as their beginner teacher.
General weird habits
  • If I'm the first one in an elevator, I head for the left rear corner
  • I count my steps. Example: I wonder how many steps it is from the bottom of the escalator to my cubicle?
  • I always set the table correctly. Salad fork, meat fork, plate, knife, spoon. Salad bowl on the left, drink on the right.
-Mike

everything has to be lined up or it bugs me, also triple check everything when doing any work on the car.

Other:

when eating a meal i always must finish sides before touching main item.

can not sleep without fan. black side on blanket has to be up also.

always triple check alarm clock, always check to make sure i have everything i need for the day a few times also.

after taking a dip, always have to line up label on copenhagen can.

as soon as i turn on comp always check email then myspace then ls1tech.

I have to have the blue side of my blanket facing up (other side is green) and when I watch tv, i always put the volume ending in multiples of five. Example, 15, 20, 25.

Nah, I do all of those above except #4. Do you have ADD? I do. You should check out the book "Driven to Distraction", its amazing how much you can learn about yourself if you have a feeling you have ADD.

-A/C vents on the dash must be aligned in the same direction. I hate seeing closed vents.

-Always empty trash out of the vehicle every single time I get out of the vehicle.

-Sun visors must be at the same height when not in use.

-Inside rearview mirror must reflect the rear window parallel to the bottom of the mirror.

-Passenger seat should always be set up in the exact same place/position as the driver's seat, so they look like a mirror image of eachother.

-No crooked floormats.

-Radio station presets are in numerical order by station channel.
