See the problem with discussing sports is just what is happening here:
To properly have a debate about sports teams, EVERYBODY has to be a subjective fan, and not just say..."Well, your team sucks...and mines better". That's not a valid argument. You MUST back it up by FACT and NOT opinion.
The Mavericks are the best team in the NBA by about 5 games over the Suns. This is a FACT! They are outscoring their opponents by almost 8.2 pts a game...This is a FACT! They have the 3rd best defense in the NBA, This is a FACT. They have the best HOME record and the best ROAD record, this is oddly enough another FACT.
Mavs are 3-1 Against Houston...(FACT)
Mavs are 2-1 Against San Antonio (FACT)
Mavs are 2-0 Against Phoenix (FACT)
They are 32-6 against the Western Conference and 12-2 in their own division.
Ya'll need to quit bashing teams just cuz you don't like them, be OBJECTIVE and provide facts for your opinions.
Granted the Mav's had some shitty teams in the 90's that, granted and THAT's a FACT as well. However, since Mark Cuban took ownership the Mav's have gone from laughing stock to an "elite" team since 2001, and that's a FACT!
Who cares about the past? Who cares that Houston has one Championship in the last 10(?) years, who cares that SA has 3? This is here and now, the 2006/2007 season.
To the respondent above that mentioned about that they couldn't win it all. What do you expect? The team is very young in playing together. That was Jason Terry's first full season. You can't expect a bunch of guys to get together like they did and win their FIRST year. Sure, would have loved it, but it wasn't in the cards obviously.
The Mav's have a BETTER chance of winning a championship this year, they SEEM to have their heads on straight. They should beat their first round opponent in 3, 2nd round opponent in 5, conf finals in 6, and then the championship in 5 (east is sucking this year).
Everything except for my predictions for the playoffs is based on FACT not OPINION or what I THINK they do. Throw some cold hard numbers fella's and some references would be nice!

ok I'm objective...I picked my spurs 3rd bcus their defense ain't the same like it used to be. I just don't see any team beating phoenix in 7 game series this year with stoudemire healthy and if nash finds a way also to stay healthy, than I w/o a doubt choose Phoenix.

Their defense is better than last year, their offense is better than last year and they've proven almost EVERY game that they can hang with "the big boys", thus why they have spanked the Spurs every game except the FIRST game of the season.

yea mavs are a good team, but like what some said in here the playoffs are a totally different season, and no matter what avery,the "jet",or dirk say you know the last 4 or 5 years they had potential championship teams and came back to dallas with 0 titles you know its in their head and its going to show sometime in the playoffs this year...when the NEW and IMPROVED yao comes back its our time!
