Question for you 4X4 guys
today at work I was talking to some guys and told them that last night I figured up that I'm spending almost 700 bucks a month in gas going to work. they start talking **** how if I kept my foot out of it I wouldn't spend so much. I told the guy that I drive normal and that my car still gets better mpg than his big dodge.....
2000 model don't know if its a 318 or a 360, 42s with 4.88 gears...... I told him I get 22 mpg and he said he got 20.......I call BS with the quickness.
another guy said he was riht and that he had a 76 ford with a 460 jacked up and he got 24 mpg..... I really called BS on that. my boss told me don't try to argue with rednecks about there trucks. but I wasn't going to give in. the guy with the dodge was arguing his point when he thru in " I bet your gonna tell me that a K&N filter and a tornado doesn't help either".....I started laughing at him. I try to tell him that when you dope up the K&N filter with all that oil you would be lucky for 2 more HP.
I told him that the tornado was **** and he told me I didn't know what I was talking about. This was the first time I have ever heard of a big 4x4 getting good mpg. clue me in guys

My '01 2500HD 4x4 with the LQ4 6.0L and 35's gets 11-12mpg city and 12-13mpg highway. Before the 35's I was still only able to get around 14-16mpg highway (although one time I got 21mpg highway with a 60+mph wind pushing me ). My friend had a 2000 Dodge Ram 2wd with the 318 and he never got much better than 12-14mpg mixed city driving. And my dad had an old 1978 Ford with the 460 when i was a little kid, it was up on 35's and he never got better than single digits (though he also said it was never running right). My old 1991 2500LD 4x4 with the TBI 350 was never better than 11-13mpg city and 12-14mpg highway. My fathers old 1993 Ford F-250 4x4 with the 351 and 5-speed manual never got any better than 12mpg city and 14mpg highway. Heck, my old 1993 Ranger with the 3.0L V6 and automatic never got better than 15mpg mixed. My friends 1994 Bronco with the 351 never got better than 14mpg highway either, and like 10-11mpg city.
Those guys are full of crap, but it is impossible to argue with rednecks - they're too dumb to realize that they're retarded .

There is no way they are getting that. Even if they were stock it would have to be diesel and even then I rseriously doubt it.
My buddy with a dodge on 40" IROK's with gears (Hemi/5 Speed) is lucky to get over 9mpg hwy.
Complete BS. Start siphoning gas out of their tanks and see what they think when their mileage really tanks.

My buddy had a Dodge dakota 4x4 w/ a 318 and it wouldn't even get 15mpg stock. there is absolutely no way that they're coming close to that kind of mileage.
i know a guy who has a brand new mega cab 4x4 cummins and he's pissed because the best it'll get is 14-15mpg , and that is stock

My '99 with a 360/auto and 3:55s gets 12mpg on a really good day. I only have 35s on it. As far as the diesel goes, my '03 Dodge Dually with a diesel/5spd and a few engine mods with 9" lift and 35s got 12mpg as well. They both got roughly 15mpg before adding the bigger tires.

I had an 01 Dodge Ram 1500 2wd with the 360 and 3.55 gears on 285-60-18 tires and a few mods. Best I ever got was probably 12-13 MPG, it was usually around 9-10 mpg. And it didn't matter what speed or how much city vs highway driving I did. I call BS on that too. If it was a diesel than maybe.
Now my 2006 Z71 Ext Cab. With 5.3 and 3.42 gears with just a true flow intake and dynomax bullet muffler, I've gotten up to 24 MPG in it on a trip up to Dallas right after I bought it. But they GM trucks get much better mileage. I will add though that this is only on long distance travels. It usually averages around 17-18 MPG.

BS. I have had the following trucks...
99 Dakota R/T 2wd, 360 3.92s 8 city, 11 hwy
77 F150 4x4, 351W 4spd stick 4.10s and 33s. 12mpg best ever
89 K5 blazer, TBI 350, auto, 3.08s and 31s 11 city, 14hwy
02 Sierra 5.3 2wd, 3.73s 15 city 17 hwy
02 Yukon 2wd 16 city, 18 hwy
02 Duramax 2500 CCSB 4x4 16 city, 19 hwy. Same mileage with stock tires and 315/70/17s
The old dodge small blocks got horrible gas mileage, big tires will only make it worse. There is no way that 460 Ford gets half of 24 mpg

In my 98 BB ex-lwb with 4:10's and the stock 245's It gets between 14,15 with the cruise on for a straight three hour trip. I drove it back and forth from home to college station for six years to gas got to expensive. Now it's the sonoma on the road. Fuel quality now day's is shitty at best so even those numbers go up and down depending on gas. But in town forget it about 10 in stop and go is it.

I hope you don't daily drive those trucks. I'd be in the poor house if I had to fill up a beast that got 10mpg.
I went on a road trip with my uncle and we got 22mpg in his 2001 2500 Dodge Cummins with a 6 speed. 2wd, extended cab, long box. Damn nice truck, very comfortable and quiet.
