Default Is this a Scam or what ?

A guy knocks on my door stating he is with Carrizo Oil and Gas, Inc. out of Houston. He says they will be drilling for Oil down the road and are asking for drilling rights under my land. He asked me to sign a 3 year contact so they could lease my land and they would send me a one time $300.00 check with in 45 days. I didnt sign any thing and he said he would stop by next week, he also wanted my SS# on a W-9 so they wont have to pay taxes.

Has this happen to anyone else? He says they are the only Company doing this in the area?

I wouldn't do it, if they do hit a big pocket and you give away your mineral rights for $300, you would lose out on the possibility of getting any money out of it.

Yes its more than likely legit. Ask what company he is from, devon and chesapeke are the big boys around here right now. More than likely he doesnt have mineral rights if you are inside of the city limits. And the 300 dollars is just for for the right to drill under your land and not for what they find. Belive me if you do have mineral rights and they find gas under your property its more than 300 dollars and its a monthly check.

Its legit, My parents are doing that at the moment. The $300 is kinda like a sign on bonus and after that you get a % of the profit from the amount thats pumped out. It's going on a lot here in Texas right now, big natrual gas boom or something I guess. The only thing bad about it is that you will get a big noisy drill very close by...

Regardless, if they get the state involved the state can just drill under you.

Legit or not, there is no way I am going to give a guy who shows up at my door my SSN. Even if there is such a company buying the rights, who says this guy is not using that to further his own scam?

Find out if the mineral rights percentage is 1/8, 1/4, or none. 1/8 MINIMUM!!!
Also, before you do ANYTHING consult an attorney that specializes in these matters. It will be EASILY payed back in the long run!

Your friend's dad got screwed. $20k isn't NEARLY enough compared to what they'll make on the right well in the Barnett.
