Problems with rebuilt manual tranny
I would also like to know where the hell you get $500.00 to replace a gear?
1.They put the car on jacks to see the leak, however nothing was coming out.
2.They drove it around for a bit, then came back and tried again to see the leak. Nothing was dripping down.
3.They went ahead and took the tranny out of the car, and did confirm that there was a leak somewhere because the bellhousing had tranny fluid all around inside of it.
4.Since it was all over the place it was hard to detect where exactly the leak was coming from. They went ahead and replaced the seal and put the tranny back together again.
5.They put it back in the car and put everything back together. They drove it around for awhile and got on it(which was okay with me). Once they returned there was no visible leak.
Once I got to the shop I was surprised that they actually took the time to wash the car, which was nice. The only bad part was Louis informed me that there was some unusual wear on the 4th gear syncro, which had I been notified before they put the car back together I would have had replaced(and paid for it). However at the end of our conversation, we shook hands and called it a day, which I thought was respectable.
The car felt real good driving it home last night.
I bought a 2002 camaro SS back in Janurary.
Sorry, had to.
In any event, glad you got it worked out and the car is running good.
The syncro was not bad, it just looked like it had 30k miles, not 2k on it, thats all. It shifted fine, the clutch still has some issues disengaging 100%, so once thats broken in it should be fine. IF it doesnt clear up, put that master in like we talked, and you should be good to go. SPECs are unusual beasts, every one is different, which might be part of the exacerbated syncro wear.
And, 99% of the time, if a customer brings in a car dirty and it stays with us for a few days, it leaves clean

Thanks again,
Louis
