Ive made it from Austin to Houston in 1.5 hours before....... I wouldnt do it again thou.

Yep your right man I think if he is coming here to get away from crime your not making a good trade I have been to South Central LA and East Side of Ft.Worth or Oakcliff man and they equal out just South Central is a lil bigger area. Every city has bad parts though just stay out of them and you will be OK. Dallas does have the number 1 crime rate this year it is because all those poor bastards from New Orleans that lost everything cause the Hurricane moved here and they cannot find anything but crime. Your parents should know after they come here to visit and talk to people to see what the bad areas are or just ask anyone on here and we'll tell you where not to go. But its Texas you can carry a gun concealed in your vehicle now unlike stupid California.

Dallas had the #1 crime rate before Katrina as well.....

And I have friends all over Dallas. I used to live in the Uptown area... where most of Dallas hangs out. Deep Ellum has turned into a **** hole... anything else? I noticed there was no response to the King of the Hill comment.

Baltimore was in 2005 per capita now Dallas is this year.
Last years murder per capita.

u right, i was lookin at 2005. and according to that article, dallas has been reporting incorrect data for many years (regarding OVERALL crime) ie: someone breaks into 7 cars at an apartment complex, Dallas reports 7 crimes. every other city reports it as ONE crime (since it was likely the same criminal on a binge). here's 2006 murder data, this is a better marker:

Criminologists say the most reliable barometer of crime may be
the FBI’s murder numbers, because they are considered the
cleanest.
Murders per Total
City 10,000 residents murders
1. Philadelphia 2.77 406
2. Houston 1.82 377
3. Chicago 1.63 467
4. Phoenix 1.54 234
5. Dallas 1.5 187
6. Los Angeles 1.24 480
7. San Antonio 0.92 119
8. New York 0.73 596
9. San Diego

and WTF?! from that data, it looks like texas is still livin in the wild west, our top 3 cities are in the top 7
(sorry OP, )

Hey capn smokey....whats wrong with Austin Texas?
Austin PD is probably the worst in the nation, that city is really messed up. Everywhere you go there are hookers, skitzos, gays and homeless people. If you talk to anyone in that city they will tell you they fear the police and desperately want to leave, plus the traffic is horrific.

I went to jail for squealing my tires in a hotel parking lot in Austin and was wronged in every way possible by the police department. I will never go back to Austin and neither will any of my friends after that.
