My advise would be to not go back with stock cubes. Go with a 408 or something along that line. I have an all forged 346 and wish I would have gone bigger. Think I ended up paying around $3000 for my short block.(parts, machine work, and assembly)

For me, its called a job. For some, its called debt. I personally won't mod unless I have the cash to cover it. The only debt I have is my house payment and I prefer to keep it that way. My car is also a daily driver so I'm not out to have the fastest and thererfore it is not breaking like others are. I also have bought most of my parts used. You get great deals this way.

Like Playtoy said. You should go with a bigger cube motor. I would probally go with a 383 if your block and everything is good. Just apply for a credit card through bank of america. Thats how I paid for mine. They gave me a 4,000 dollar limit. (It got me started anyway). Good luck!

around $2500 here, i didnt go all out with crazy cubes or crazy billet rods are anything like that. the turbo will do its share for power. stock crank, eagle rods, wiseco pistons, and coated bearings.

My iron 408 shortblock was $3900. Set of cheap L92's and an LS3/L76 intake and you'll have a helluva runner for not much money. I would just buy a forged 347 if you can't afford it though, you're usually looking at about $2800 or so for that.
I save all my money working engineering co-op's while I go to school. I also install/tune everything myself, saves some money. Moderators also get all their parts for 1/2 price.

I wouldn't go into debt moding a car, it's not worth it. IMO also, I wouldn't even really mod my car until it was paid for.

Didnt you get "started" because you drove your allready H/C LS1 thru water that was too deep and the insurance money you got from your claim got you "started"? Just because you have a iron block now doesnt mean you can drive thru deep water any better than before, just remember that.
