Default Tranny problem question!!! Need help!!

Here is basically what happened to me in a nutshell:

I topped out my car at 165+, stayed at that speed for a bit, noticed light smoke behind my car, pulled over to find atf fluid has drenched my undercarriage, its now in my garage looking like the ds came out of the tail housing a little bit (maybe 1/2") and the seal is leaking when i just idle the car and put it in gear to do a cold fluid level check

it drives like i have a flat tire, though i only drove it to pull it in the garage from the curb..

anyone know what the hell is going on??

How much plat is in the tile shaft from the yoke? There should be a tiny bit, if you can really move it around, you have trouble.

Translation... if the driveshaft yoke has too much side or lateral movement then the tailhousing bushing has failed, is wiped out or the tailhousing is broken.

Can't blame you for trying to get as much info as possible! But I recommend more wrenching and less typing! P.M.'s, e-mails, multiple threads, photos and it ain't fixed yet. Those of us giving advice aren't gonna get it fixed from here... hehehehe. Get to work dude!

I had a similar situation on the dyno where my not so well balanced factory steel driveshaft vibrated so much at speed that it cracked my tailhousing, fluid everywhere. Sounds like you too my have the steel driveshaft. You may have damaged the shaft or tranny output shaft as well. Sounds like one of two may now be slightly bent. Good luck and let us know what ultimately caused this problem.

damnit. I also have a question, when doing my conversion from LT1 to LS1, should I get the driveshaft balanced, or should it be fine with the LS1. I have the steel.

FWIW, LS1s with the factory steel driveshaft were electronically limited to 125 mph.......

Had the same thing happen to me on a different vehicle...driveshaft balance was off, high speeds caused the tailshafts to come apart

If your not going to be putting down alot of extra horsepower I would buy a used aluminum ds. I saw one here or on the other board recently for i think $75, balanced.
