i have had to file a claim like this before, through statefarm texas has a 'Texas Unisured Motorist Fund" if you have ever gotten a tickett for not being able to show proof of insurance you have to pay fees (i forget if they are yearly or monthly) into this fund. now for me with statefarm i had to pay the first $250 and the insurance covered the rest and sent the bill to austin.

so yeah call your insurance provided and see if the have heard of the texas uninsured motorist fund

If you have uninsured motorist coverage (basically mandatory in this part of the country), you should be able to get it covered under that without having comprehensive/collision.

If not, I can tell you from experience that if a minor without a license drives a car into your own, you CAN sue their parents. Most likely, the dollar amount will qualify for small claims. Even if you win, collecting is not easy unless unless you are confident their parents make enough money you can garnish their check and get your funds.

Thanks for the advice, guys. I only have liability, by the way.

Is there a good lawyer I can contact in the Houston area?

damn that sucks you only had the car for about 2 weeks now. and the damage doesnt look that bad well atleast they didnt hit your nose like me lol, also a victim of hit and run. But since your pressing charges arent you supposed to go to court to see what happens or something just check their parents if you go.

In my case, the kids parents name and address were on the police report. You then file your info with the court, pay to have them served, and wait for your court date

I wonder how much a lawyer would charge just so I make it be an open-and-close case for me to get the car fixed.

My wife works in insuance:

Uninsured/Underinsured motorist is NOT required in Texas. In fact, you have to DECLINE it in writing to not get charged for it. It is NOT cheap coverage. To add it to your policy it will usually increase the 6 month premium like 20%.

We just added it to our policy, because now we can afford additional coverages.

Just FYI

Yeah, well, it looks like my legal recourse is to sue the parents.
