U of H is a great school and has had many of its program rank very high among the nations top institutions. It's also changing a lot, trying to shed the commuter school image by a complete redevelopment of the campus over a period of the next 10-15 years, the area around is also changing for the better finally. It's overlooked and under rated, but the school it self by being in the heart of the nations 4th largest city has a ton of unique benefits I don't think you'll find at some of the more traditional universities in Texas. I think a lot of people equate a schools worth to its athletics. I'm graduating soon and I'm happy to see all the improvements, just makes my degree more valuable as the University appreciates so to speak. I wasn't initially happy that I was going to U of H but am glad I went here in the end.

the MBA program was ranked once 12th nation wide and 5th among public schools.

the new business week ranking put UH #1 in Houston and 4th in the Southwest. before A&M UT Austin and Rice.

A lot of U of H's problems with recognition has stemmed from poor management of the University it self when it comes to promoting accolades and recognitions. Theres stuff all over the business school trumping the CEI program, rest of the University needs to get on board. I'm apart of the greek system here, the university doesn't really promote that either, whereas we are the ones showing up in force to the games, tail gate, home coming, frontier fiesta and numerous philanthropic events through out the course of the school year that raise a ton of money for so many different organizations. Hopefully their master plan works and gets the school where it needs to be, they have more than enough potential to compete with UT or A&M on academic level and at one point in days gone by, an athletic level as well.

The business school (entrepreneur field) was also ranked #2 in the country last month, by Entrepreneur Magazine. That list they beat was also pretty impressive, including Harvard.

What do wish to do with the physics degree?

Have you considered mechanical engineering? Very similar courses, much broader job spectrum and higher pay...

Well, I was going to do Civil/Structural but realized I wanted the pure science of a Physics degree. I would like to study in graduate school QM, Relativity, etc. I honestly don't know what I want to do with the Physics degree - maybe research somewhere in academia or industry or applied physics? I don't know yet. I guess I could if I wanted get into engineering (applied physics) with a BS in Physics.

if you check the list you will see UH MBA is one of the lowest in all public schools. $270 per credit hour in UH vs. $1532 in UT Austin :s

All Texas schools have gone up since deregulation of tuition, still cheap compared to a lot.

Mom & Dad didn't pay for my college either. You only think it is expensive until you graduate and get a real job

Depending on your degree, in a couple years at a good salary job, college pays for itself.

I might end up doing my MBA at U of H if the tuition stays that low.
