Default Wow, those new Vortec Max 6.0s are no joke. My experience...

I ran into a black crew cab Vortec Max yesterday on the way from work. I can't say what he had, but definitely had an exhaust. We went from 60 mph and of course he jumped me as my turbo has to spool up before it takes off, but when it did, I was barely reeling him in. We also went from a 20 mph roll and it was a different story. I killed him. What kind of power are those trucks making? 1/4 mile times?

By the way, I have a '06 2500HD Duramax (360hp/650tq stock), with a PPE programmer set on 225hp (fwhp), PPE boost controller (~20hp), MBRP 4" exhaust with no cat or muffler, modified air intake, and Transgo Jr. shift kit.

it depends what year. the new 07 have something like 367fwhp and 3xx fwtq. they do 0-60 in a lil under 7 sec i think or around 7 sec. the 06's had 345fwhp and 380fwtq.

I test drove an 07 LBZ CC 2wd before I bought my vortec max. The Max is slightly faster in stock form, but a mod'd LBZ shouldn't have any trouble walking a stock Vmax. Most guys I found run 14.8-15.3 in a stock crew cab Vmax. ET drops drastically with basic mods and a tune....

mjcotroneo, it had to be a '07 or '08 as it was the new body style. Damn, I didn't know they had that much power and ran that quick.

regorih383, no. I could care less if he jumps me because if I'm going to pull him, I'm gonna pull him. Again, I was barely reeling him in and when he noticed he let off (bullshit).

SilverSierra, of course in stock form, the diesel will take it out, but you have to keep in mind that these trucks don't have a lot of top end. They do best at lower speeds. I walked him from the 20 mph roll.

-Ross-, haha, lmao. This happened yesterday and I ran into his thread before I left work today, so he inspired me to make this thread.

I know the diesel has less top end. I had an LB7 for a while. As funny as it sounds, the VortecMax has no bottom end. It makes gobs of power between 4000 and 5500 which isn't incredibly useful. Im hoping thats due to traction contol and torque management. Trying to get a few more miles on mine before I tune it.

The reason it feels that way is because it has a **** load of TQ management from the factory. That's why with a tune they wake up huge.

yea i am in the same boat... the tune in these trucks sucks especially with bigger tires. i have had my truck for almost 4 months and almost have 10k on it. when it gets that it is going to the dealer for any service bulletins and then a tune.

Just a dyno tune alone wakes up the new GM trucks bigtime. Some huge gains in midrange as well as higher rpm. Which reminds me, I need to get my Escalade tuned. Just put a Magnaflow catback and an intake tube on it last weekend.

A guy on PerformanceTrucks has one. With intake, exhaust, tune and 22s he ran a 13.67!

I need a tranny and converter upgrade, load level 6, and break off a 12.90! No BS. I'd guess my truck right now is around 13.90s because there's lots of trucks just like mine with smaller rims and tires running 13.60-13.70s.

Last time I was at the track, most of the diesel guys couldn't get a true ET because the smoke kept screwing up the sensors!

My truck doesn't smoke that much...and that's a good thing. A LOT of people are under the impression that the more smoke, the more power, but that is very untrue. Wasted fuel. The PPE programmer that I have runs smoother, quieter, and cooler than the Predator I used to have. Then with the PPE boost controller on top of it, the smoke is reduced even more.
