It's most likely in reference to me & AGRV8D trying to work out a barter/sale on my '73 Sporty.

Well I was just trying to see what you guys thought a 2005 HD softail with the following mods is worth.....
6 degrees of rake on the front end
re-painted it "hot rod black" AKA flat black
new pipes
ape hangers - That look gay, he has the stock ones to put back on
shaved blinkers - I like being legal without having to use my arm, he has those too.
Jetted Carb
Hypercharger
It has 18K miles and a clean & clear title.

Like I said I don't know to much about bikes so I have no idea what this thing is worth.

That thing would look nice with some drag bars....I'm not much for ape hangers....mostly because I can't see riding far with all the blood drained out of my arms, lol. Plus I don't like the apes when they lead back, I like them to tilt forward a little, they seem out of place on that bike. It doesn't appear to have near as many cables & crap on the bars as most stock bikes though, it seems pretty clean.

Just remeber that there is an abundance of HD's right now. Some owners tend think that their HD is worth what they paid plus what they put in it. Check out ebay and see which bikes are being bid on which ones aren't. IMO that bike is worth about 9500 tops, not many mods, flat black paint and it is still carburated.

FYI, apes are more comfortable then your standard bars because it keeps your hands elevated over your shoulders.

Is that a street bob? I think I spy Denim Black paint job.

He kinda has a point here. HD's are supposed to keep their resale value. When I bought my 06 Sporty, they still wanted 10% down. Shortly after I bought it HD started moving the bikes with 0 down and the market was flooded with new one. As a result, the bottom has kinda fallen out on the used bike market.

My original plans were to trade it or trade up my Sporty and get a bigger cruiser, but at this rate Im probably upside down with what I owe, so I'll just pay this one off and probably get a BMW sportbike next.

I sold my '06 Fatboy EFI for $17K about a month ago. Had ~3K miles on it, and about $2200 worth of add-ons. Black, of course. I'd say that one is worth low teens at best. Carb'd ones don't resell as good as the EFI ones do. Apes are fugly, I hate those.

Still have the wife's '06 Sportster 883 custom. Probably sell it soon too, it just collects dust in the garage.

Its a standard with a rake and custom paint job (flat black)

worth more than 9500 for sure, but no more than about 13,500. depending on the buyer.

Mods on bikes are like mods on cars, not worth much when you resale. But Harleys DO keep their resale if you buy a big twin.

Sportsters dont keep their value because they are not sought after as much as the 88 and 96 CI Bigger bikes.

IMO dont buy a sporty if all you want in the end is a big twin
