Default Breaking into offshore

Hey I wanted to get feedback and some contacts for someone looking to work offshore. My bro just got laid off from the company he was with and wants to head offshore for the first time. He was installing traffic lights and other types of eletrical work so that might be able to get him off shore.

If there is a feild he can start off in with little to no exp then what would that be??

Thanks

PS Hurry I don't want my home to be considered his new home.

I have been looking in that field as well. You might be lucky and get some feedback on this site but I sure didnt. I guess people just help people they know on this site! So much for an ls1tech family. Ha, but GL with the find and if you do let me know something.

Tell him to apply with the offshore construction contractors as a rigger. Better to work on a ship than on a platform.

Google search:

Acergy
Subsea 7
Deep Down Inc
Helix Energy Solutions
Cal-Dive
Allseas USA
Oceaneering
Canyon Offshore
Technip

looks like Oceaneering has the best way to get your foot in the door after researching all the ones Tony listed

I've also been trying to get in that field but with No offshore experience it looks like I'll have to start at the bottom and work my way up. That fine with me.

Default Lots of options

Tony has already listed some good engineering / construction support companies.

Some other construction support companies are:

Veolia ES (also offshore services)
FugroChance Marine Construction (Houston)
Delmar (Mooring Ops - Houston and Lafayette)
Intermoor (Mooring Ops - Houston?)

Some drilling support companies:

Halliburton
Mi Swaco
Smith Services International
Schlumberger
Baker
National Oilwell Varco (NOV)

Some survey companies are:

GeoCentury
Fugro GeoServices (Houston)
FugroChance Survey (Lafayette)
C&C Technologies (Houston & Lafayette)
GEMS, inc. (Geoscience Earth and Marine Services) (Houston - mostly offshore rep survey QC work)

Some vessel companies (vessel crew):

Harvey Gulf
Edison Chouest (Galliano, LA)

And finally platforms and mobile drilling units (rigs):

Rigs (Mobile Driling):

Noble Drilling
Transocean
Global SantaFe (bought recently by Transocean I think)
Diamond Offshore

GoM Operators (Fixed Platforms, both Production and Drilling):

Shell
Chevron
BP
Petrobras
Elpaso
Plains E&P
etc etc etc (tons of these)

I am on the Noble Drilling - Jim Thompson rig as we speak in about 3800' of water (I am Survey Coordinator for Shell and am here to oversee a move from one location to another).

Noble owns the rig, we lease it by day rate. At present, we are using Edison Chouest anchor handlers with Delmar mooring crews, FugroChance survey and various other drilling contractors out here. I have heard that Noble (based in Sugarland) is a good rig company to start out with as a roustabout or ET (electrician tech) -- 14 days on, 14 days off. I have no idea on pay (believe it to be pretty decent for a young guy).

You have to start somewhere.

I interviewed with Halliburton and Sperry drilling.

all offshore work for my first 3-5 years, but i will make great money.

I will be a Petroleum Geologist official after this May. looking in the 64k first year. After ~1.3years looking around double.

Not sure if I want to take it though. I need to talk to some other people and friends.

I've been working with Transocean for the last 7.5 years. We just recently merged with Global Santa Fe but I think that the hiring process is still individual between the two companies. I started at the bottom and worked my way up. The money is there to be made but it is going to take some time. The way we do our hiring now is messed up. You have to submit a resume online for it to be considered. Go to www.deepwater.com and check it out.

What do the experienced drillers think about a school like Maritime Drillers School? I have been using rigzone to get my resume out there but it seems quite difficult for someone with 0 offshore or drilling experience to get a job if they are far away from the home bases of the drilling companies.

Thanks for any input.

If he is in Tyler, Look up Bobcat coiled tubing or Frac Tech. They are busy and Superior. Over in Kilgore is busy I think if it aint to far.
