F-body ignition keys have a little "chip" in them, you have to go to a dealer for a new one and if i remember right was around $40-50

lets say you have a spare GM key with the chip can they program that key and keyless entry to it for a lesser fee or do they have to supply the key?

A new key fob is around 85 bucks the last time I checked. You might ask the dealership if they have any used ones, b/c sometimes they get used ones in the body shop from totalled cars.

the key is not programed to the car. the car will only work with a specific "resistor" key. you can get it at the dealer. just need vin and proof of ownership. just buy the fob. You can program it yourself. just do a search for how.

GM VATS Keys have 1 of about 7 different resistors in them. If you knew the value of the resistor you could get the correct blank on E-Bay for around 11 bucks. It's not so much programming the key, as it is reading the resistance and selecting the correct value.

Since you don't have a spare key, I'm afraid you are going to need to visit the dealer and have them figure out what key you need. As far as the FOB, it's going to run around 75 dollars.
