Default Can I register a car that is not currently inspected.. and wont be insured?

Well I think im buying my old car back tomorrow. It needs some work and I dont think that ill be driving it right away. The car doesnt currently pass inspection, and I'd prefer to not insure it right away since it'll just be sitting for a little while. Can I still register it in my name w/out inspection/insurance? Also, im buying it for below the texas appraised value. Has some damage etc.. Prob nothing I can do about the tax right? unless I could get it profressionally appraised?

if its Texas..you can register it without it being inspected..but you have to have up to date insurance before you can register it.

They wouldn't let me register my vehicle without it being inspected first. Maybe because it was from out of state, I don't know.

Call the DMV, they'll tell you faster and more precisely than anyone on these forums.

I had my car registered in another county. All I needed was the paper for the registration, my insurance, and $51.

The state inspection was expired.

Waller county = no emissions

I bought a car about 6 months ago. I went and had the title changed into my name. I only paid $1,500 for the car and ended up paying taxes on $2,600 because they said thats what it is worth. Texas has changed its title transfer tax. You no longer pay taxes on the price you bought the car for. You pay a percentage (%) of what the vehicle is worth.

ya I knew that tx had the "assumed value" of cars. was just wondering how to get around it. But Im pretty sure you have to get a professional appraisal that costs a few hundred. Which in this case... wouldnt be worth it.

It depends on what county your registering it in. If it Harris county and the car came from another county it has to pass emissions and safety inspection in Harris county before they will give you your registration tag. You can just transfer the title into your name though.

its easy to get around. you just say it was a gift and then you pay $10 gift tax.

if you are an honest person and dont want to lie then its still easy to get around.

you get will the seller and you give him a gift(and it just happens to be what he was asking for the car) or you buy some floormats from him (again for the cars price) and since he is such a nice person he decides to give you an early xmas present and he gives you the car as a gift.

this is a free country so you and him are allowed to give each other gifts. since the car was a gift then you only pay a $10 tax.

ya... it "was". He hit a deer so the front passenger side fender/part of the front bumper is cracked. Also, the rear fenders have a small amount of body damage . This will for sure be a beater
