Garage Floors: To Epoxy, or To Tile.....That is the Question
I'm buying a new house and wanted to get the garage ready before I moved all my junk in. What do you guys prefer, Epoxy floor paint or Vinyl tiling?
What are the pros and cons of each?

tile will dent with the jack stand on it, then the next time you put it close to that spot, its going to slip in. Altho vynil tiles are easy to replace... Epoxy floor paint is cheap too, depends on how much work you do in the garage,

Expoxy, all the way. It's hundreds of times more durable and chemical resistant than tile, and easier to clean up spills on.
Just make sure the garage is VERY well ventilated when you're working in there, and if it's an attached garage don't let the fumes into the house. The fumes are pretty hazardous.

Get some kind of coating. My dads garage is polished concrete and it stains easily. Real nice to roll jacks on, but doesn't keep looking nice like a coating will. I think that the vinyl would not hold up well if you are jacking up cars on it.
Good luck.
Good luck.

Where do you get the VCT tile??? My dad is looking to do his garage floor and that's just what I was looking for. Something that's durable and looks more interesting than just epoxy.

Re: Garage Floors: To Epoxy, or To Tile.....That is the Question
The VCT tile is industrial grade. Not vinyl. It is extremely durable and won't waer out. You can get it in two thicknesses 1/16" and 1/8". This is the stuff they use in Hair salons, elaborate garages, hospitals and so forth. It cleans easily and can be buffers to a very high gloss. You will almost definately find it in all the Big Name racecar trailors. You can search and buy it on line or go to Home Depot. Ther are a slew of colors to choose from and cost about 60 cents a square or less. It is extremely easy to put down as well.

I did my garage floor over 14 months ago with the Rustoleum Epoxy you can get at most good hardware stores, & spent less than $200 to complete a 4 stall garage area of about 1000 square feet.
Looks great, & cleans up very easily.
Recommended for us that can't afford a Viper & a 'Benz!

Re: Garage Floors: To Epoxy, or To Tile.....That is the Question
No it's not my garage... HighGMC was kidding around and I played along with it. I was just trying to show the floor and those cars were in the pic. My garage will be getting done within the next month but will have the same tile layed. It is cheap and looks very nice. I have epoxy paint sitting on the shelf but decided to do the checkers. They are only $.60 a tile so my garage is 27x22 which is around 600sqft. With the adhesive and all it will cost around $400 to do.

Re: Garage Floors: To Epoxy, or To Tile.....That is the Question
i like the coating, but i am really leaning to the tile now the more i see it to replace the baer epoxy i have now.
i just have to clean out all the crap out of my garage to do it! maybe after the efa race on the 4th i will have time to do something.

Ucoat has some cool colors but .90 a sq is big bucks for paint. Tile at .60 a sq looks like a better option do you need a special adhesive in wet applications?
