Hmm, I'm not even sure what to say about that. I do know that I would never be caught under something like that. I think that I'll stick with my jack stands.

I saw that homemade lift the other day on that forum. But I don't think I would have the gut's to craw under that.

There is not nearly enough cross bracing on that thing. All it needs is a good push from the front or rear and it will come crashing down.

it's not his i don't think. 2 things:

a. it doesn't look sturdy enough,
and b. what kind of jacked-up (pun intended) heighth is that? do you lay down and have long-*** arms? do you sit indian style and have a very small back that keeps you from hitting your head? or are you a midgit and can stand under that thing? at least if i was going to do that, i would make it at a height worthwhile.

tuffluck said exactly what i was going to -- that guy must be like 10 feet tall to have arms long enough to reach up there, and indian style insn't exactly the most convienent way of moving around either.

I've done some stupid things in my time, but I don't think I would be caught anywhere near that thing.

Hmm, outdoor wooden "lift" for 3500+lb car. Hope he doesn't have termites.
Oh, and from the builder (in the thread linked above) "There is enought room to sit indean style abd work on the tranny, clutch, rearend or whatever." I'de rather be on my back on the old skateboard.

I think he needs to build a set of wooden jack stands for saftey sake!

Is that lift made of soft white pine - 2X6s - I can't believe the town police would allow him to use that thing?

I guy I bought a 70' Vette from had a garage with a pit dug in the ground. It was deep enough to work on the car from below. Weird, but effective, however. The difference here is that the pit was safe; this pine lift is a death trap!

im sure if you know what you're doing you can build a safe lift. look at houses for example, 2nd stories etc are all supported by 2x12's etc. Still makes me think twice about getting under there though.

Funny thing, I've been working on something similar
(pressure treated and knockdown for storage). But
last time I posted about my ghetto doings some folks
got all weepy so I won't show you the pics.

That is exactly what I thought when I first looked at the photos. Its very evident that whoever built it has no idea about truss design or calculating loads. Those vertical planks have nothing keeping them from falling forwards or backwards except the top and side plywood panels. NOT safe.

I would say "you wouldn't catch me dead under that thing", but if I got under it that might be the case.
