Get a Chrysler puller. It has the longer shaft that goes into the crank. Makes damage to the crank less likely and is long enough. I damaged the end of the crank using a socket with the AutoZone pulley. Didn't harm anything, but it wasn't long enough, hence my using the socket to fit down onto the end of the crank.

I have used this puller and shaft protector countless times and have never had any snout damage or puller issues. OTC makes a some nice tools.

Well the price is right! The J-41816 that the service manual recommends is 180 bucks without the crankshaft end protector.

A lot of love for the Chrysler puller! I have to say that it would make me a little nervous just using the rod inside the crank but it sounds like a few of you have used it with no problems. I wonder if it would work with the OTC 8051 crank protector Conan posted.

I don't think the rod will be short enough to pull against the shaft protector, you'll probably have to let it go into the crank.

I use my pullers for a lot of other jobs so having a 2-3 jaw puller I can use in multiple scenarios is what I want out of my puller. The Chrysler puller is limited to this type of job only. Both will get the job done with out making a hack job out of your crank snout.

I have used the otc chrysler puller 100 times on chryslers. Its a compact design and from searching it's the best one to fit. The rods are rounded and stiff, has no chance of messing up the threads or any part of the crank.

I broke that style of puller, so I looked for a differnet one and was really happy with this puller. G&G Technics GGT-180. I did a youtube tool review on how it works.

That's timely, I used it yesterday and it worked alright for me. Did you get your money back for it?

No, I should check into that. I did contact the company to see if I could purchase another arm or set of arms because they come off with a pull of a pin, but I never got a response from them. You would think they could make some extra cash replacing the part because I have seen a few other people break it just like I did.

Not to necro-post, but I can't find the GGT-180 anywhere here in the US. Where did you get it?

Just in case anyone else stumbles here, I contacted G&G Technics via email and this was their response:

We are building up distributors in the USA and you can buy the Tool from ‘Liberty Engine Parts’ and I see they have a store in Massachusetts which is the closest one to you.

(Contact information withheld based on forum rules for non-vendors)

If you have any trouble, let me know and I will put you on to the warehouse in California who will be able to fix you up.
Pretty awesome they got back to me so fast.

Small/medium 3 jaw puller works fine, I made a divet in the old crank bolt head, screwed it in slightly and used it for the tool to push against.
