Default Gear Wrench brand tools - Junk?

I bought several sets of Gear Wrench brand wrenches from Sears; they are really nice tools. All for about $59 per set.

I'm not sure why Sears agreed to sell them since they are obviously much higher quality than the Craftsmutt brand gear wrenches and they are less expensive too.

Compared to the Mac set that was going for $180, I think the Gear Wrench set was about the same quality for 1/3rd the price.

All-in-all, a great value!

I agree.
Gearwrenches have more clearence on the box end than the blackhawk(mac) ones.
I have been using my set of gearwrenches for about 3-4 years and have yet to break one.

Hey Monkey:
Like most here, I hate monkeying around with poor tools; I also get frustrated with incomplete sentance structure, none sentances, and garbeled talk that "W" spews during national debates and other communications with fellow Americans.

As a conservative voter for the last few decafes, I can say this man is a decent guy. He should probably be a sanitation engineer and not the US president, however. The flip-flop guy is just another poor choice, however.

Can you describe the "experiences" you have encountered during use of the Gear Wrench brand tools?

Thanks...

"decafes" Please don't knock others when you can't spell. I am sure you can spell "decades" but clearly made a mistake, like my good buddy Brandon did.

Don't let us dig into this garbled phrase either:

Maybe you meant to phrase it this way,
Can you decribe the "experiences" you have encountered by using the Gear Wrench brand of tools....reads better that way, doesn't it?

Your Welcome

Almost forgot. Gear wrenches have been great tools for me. I haven't had a problem with them yet. I've owned my standard and metric sets for over 4 years of abusive, tedious LS1 engine work.

Hey Fed98:

***********
While we are correcting each others' spelling I noted that my Websters does not have a listing for "decribe"...
*********
My spelling is average; something Bush#2 cannot claim. It is my typing that sucks...

Anyway, I think we all can agree that Gear Wrench brand tools provide good value.

Robert, I have sets of both brands (Sears and GearWrench). Sears actually makes three levels of these types of wrenches. The base level is like two pieces of sheetmetal riveted together with the internals showing. The second level looks nearly identical to the GearWrenches, with a slightly rough surface and larger head sizes around the gear section. The upper level Craftsman are highly polished, have a smaller head size than the GearWrench, and a little switch to reverse their direction. They are similar looking to the Snap-On ones. They also have a more precise click and smaller angle between clicks compared to the GearWrenches.

My GearWrenches work fine for 90% of the duties, but sometimes you need the smaller head size and smaller angle between clicks to get to tight spaces and harder to reach bolts. The upper level Craftsmans are nicer quality also.

I have had some issues with my gearwrenches, if you put too much tq on them the socket or gear part of it gets stuck in one direction, usually a hit on the ground fixes it, most of the time they are great though.

I am sorry I did not see this sooner, I meant to say that I have always had GOOD experiences with Gear Wrenches. Let me make sure everything is nice and neat, because mr.perfect doesnt make any mistakes. Plus, what the hell does the candidate I support have anything to do with Gear Wrenches? I really got to know Gear Wrenches good when I was in school working on Hondas and other small imports when space was an issue.

Hey Bobby Barsch, keep your political ineptitudes to yourself. Last time I checked, this isn't the political area of the racer's lounge, and you have no right to critique granite about anything political in a "tools" thread. What is up with that?

That being said, I have no experience with Gear Wrench tools. I happened to stumble on you being a "tool" in the "tools forum" while I was trying to learn about "tools."
