But Sears usually has two brands. The Craftsman brand gear wrenches are *** expensive! Look around and find the other brand (I think called Gear Wrench), and pay about $45 or so for a set. These things are very helpful if you do lots of wrenching

Craftsman are guranted forever and reversable. If you ever use a non-reversable gear wrench to take out a torque convertor bolt and realize when ur 3/4 of the way out that the wrench wont come out and neither will the bolt and you have to yank the trans dont say i didnt warn ya. .......but not like i ever did something dumb like that.

I have a set of the crafts man and i love em and i have broke a few and crafts man replaces them no questions asked.

Get the gear wrench brand if your a bit short on cash, they must be flipped to rotate the other way, but hell, the set comes with all the ratchet wrenches, a ratchet screwdriver, eleventy-nine bits for it, 8mm-25?mm sockets short and deep both, and two all-in-one knife/pliers/chainsaw/etc pocket knives that come in handy sometimes.

If not, get the Craftsman ones for the warrenty.

I just went looking. The gear wrench brand is 40 bucks and the craftsman reversable is $120. I think I am going to be cheap and get the gear wrench brand.
Thanks for the input. I will also watchout not to back myself into a corner like you did Brad. Funny...I could see me doing something like that.

I don't know where all you guys keep finding these old-school Gear Wrench wrenches. I got mine as a Christmas gift half a year ago and they have the reversing lever. I hardly ever even see the non-reversing wrenches any more. Don't get them from Napa though, they are way more expensive there. Do find a set though, they are one of the handiest tools I have in the box.

I am a big Craftsman fan, but in this case I would rather have the Gear Wrench brand. I don't like what Sears always tries to do with their knock-offs. Dremel > Sears makes their own... Roto-Zip > Sears makes their own... now the ratcheting wrenches too. Gear Wrench was the innovator, Sears is the imitator.

I bought a 5 piece set of Craftsmen gear wrenches (8,10,12,13, & 14mm) for $39.99 about a month ago because they were and probably still are on sale. If you don't have a sears card, apply for one and they also give you $10 off your purchase which would make it $29.99.

I cannot stress this enough!! Do not get the non reversible one if you can. Get the more expensive reversible ones.

F.Y.I. I own a Sears Dealer store. Your Gearwrenches do have a lifetime warranty but keep your box there is a 800 # on it you will have to call and send it to them and wait for your replacement.
Plus the regular price of the crafstman reversible wrench is now 99.99 they are on sale for 79.99 and thru Saturday 08/02/03 craftsman club is going on. You can save another 10% off of that. If you are not a member any store should sign you up and give you the discount. Hell if you want I will do thru my store with a c.c. and send them to you with no shipping charges.
