I would imagine seals. because its all hydraulic, meaning that it wont hold a seal.

OR you might need to fill it up with more oil. I had to do that in one once..

.

Most jacks are rebuildable, & as most things with fluid, they do leak as they are used.

Ive tried to fill one up,but squirted all the Hydraulic fluid out some rubber access plug.I also tried other access holes, but no use.Is there a way to prime the air out? This seems to be the issue with one that I have.

Raise your jack up to full extension, hold or block it there, then remove the drain plug. Of course try and get the cylinder level so you can get fluid in it.

is there a way to increase/decrease the rotating bar sensitivity, one of my jacks is a decent jack, but when i raise it up put jack stands under the car then go to lower the hydrolic jack, the bar tends to be hard to spin, and i try to go slowly, but it seems to stick, then boom, the car falls quickly and i have to quickly jerk the bar back to stop it from slamming the car down.

sorry if this doesnt make sense. any tips??

thanks!

Makes perfect sense. I have one exactly like that. We tried everything. It just has a huge drop for some reason.
I actually marked the handle so we only use it on trucks. I never get under it, don't trust it.
Great thread, hope a hydraulic guys shows up.

My floor jack stopped working on me Thrusday with the car up on 4 jackstands. It would not lift the car up enough to lower the stands. I ended up running around to all 4 corners 4 times with a cement block and the spare tire scissor jack slowly letting the car down a couple notches at a time. What a pain.

its usually not enough fluid. Most of the time people never check the jacks and they slowly leak fluid out until finally its just enough to get you started but not enough to lift it to its full capacity. Just put some hyd. oil back in it and it will be good 90 percent of the time. Try to make sure its level and if your not sure, just put small amounts in at a time. If for some reason the seals are gone in the jack, they can be rebuilt fairly easy if you can find a kit for it.

There is also a ball and seat that sometimes is the culprit. Also you also get what you pay for. I have Lincoln (snap on) jacks in the shop, used daily for over ten years without a single problem.

Ha, jack fluid.....

Anyways, mine stopped working well the other night while I was pulling the tranny. It just stopped jacking up high enough to pull the stands out, so I filled it up with tranny fluid and it works well now. Still feels a little different, but that's probably because I didn't know to jack it up all the way before filling it. I may need to redo it that way and see if it feels a little better. Either way, it works now.

A neighbor threw out a nice 3 ton, and I found that the cheap metal on the bypass screw wore down against the ball bearing seal. Took it apart, welded a new tip on it, and it works great.
