Be Sure To Lube The Stud And Washers

It sounds like you figured out what to do. Any dry, uncoated metal surfaces moving against each other will gall. Be sure to use plenty of lubrication on the stud as well as the washers. It is best to use 2 washers. Grease seems to stay in place better than oil.

id like to see pics of this crane tool, ive used the one that a member on this board makes for the in car, worked great but i had to use a mirror on a telescoping handle to see on the back cylinders if the new spring was centered so when i compressed it, it didnt go right on top of the valve. and if this one can do 2 at once, i either see it being a total pain to line up, or a godsend. id have to try it to determine.
