I've become a master with this tool. It will swap out any springs whether they are single or duals. With a stubby ratchet, this job can be done in a few hours. It is not impossible to lose a couple of valve locks in the process though. I did the swap on my 99 Z28 and lost 3. This was my first swap. I swapped them out again on my car and lost none. Then I did a swapp on a 00 WS6 and lost none. I guess it comes with practice. I used the TDC method everytime with hand tools.
One suggestion though. Shorten the legs of the tool so that when the spring is compressed, it is compressed more evenly instead of putting all of the pressure on the outside of the spring. Great idea Larry. Come up with some more genius LS1 tools.

Glad you like the tool. I used a pencil magnet when I compressed the spring to help prevent losing the keepers.
I'll take a look into shorter legs. Really didn't notice any angular rotation of the retainer with my 918 springs. If it was there it was not a problem.

No problem Larry. I too used a magnet tool, and it helped out alot. The tool is great, but has the capability to be greater with shorter legs. This will relocate the tips of the legs around the center of the retainer more, and makes for even easier spring removal. If you have any more, shoot me a PM. I'm interested in purchasing one of my own. I used a friends and I want one.
A good trick to remeber with this tool is to slip the tip of the magnet down the retainer, and connect to the valve and pull it up while you compress the spring. It makes the TDC method work very quickly with little trouble. Plus it helps locate where the spring needs to be centered at for the valve to come through the retainer perfectly without rubbing the edge of hole in the retainer. I give you alot of credit. Very simple, but very effective.

Larry, sorry I didnt need to use it earlier, but used the VS tool you sent me 3 months ago, it is the chit man. That puppy pulled the double springs of my buddies PP heads so quick and easy. I swear. I was pissed cause it took me longer to start the air line than it did R&R the spring.

Has anybody had the stud break yet? I know it was a problem with the autozone version of this tool, but it used a bolt rather than a stud. A stud might just totally eliminate the problem!
