It might sound sad but this site is a part of my life so whatever tuff times it goes through I am still going to stay and greatly appreciate everything i have gotten, everyone that has helped me, everyone i have helped, there just isnt a better forum in my eyes. I love this place regardless of how slow it is moving and how many server busy messages i get, you are still going to see my name at the bottom of the home page logged in because i live here. I am greatful for everything you guys do and what you have built.

Oh I wish I was an Oscar Meyer Weiner...

wait a minute - servers - yeah that's it...

My hat's off to you Brains - I've been jacking with servers all day. Fortunately during my "hurry up and wait" time, I get to poke around on the site.

Idiot. I know all the domain hosting info about LS1Tech, thats public.

However, that only gives you registered party info, not where the physical server is. Think before you post next time.

A few years ago we were all on Dial up....... Sounds like somebody isn't coming to bed and is messing with the server instead .....

P.S.- It's actually only been 3 years to the day almost.

You're member 2320. Just go look at your own profile and then look up in the address bar and look at the section at the end where it says
Code:

thats your member number.

You think he has the servers at his house? Think about all the factors that would come into play to keep a server under this much load up damn near 24hrs a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. I dont see how you could think somebodys house would be able to accomodate those requirements.

It's that it's really noticeable because the performance of LS1Tech has always been outstanding. Lately it's been painfully slow just to open a thread, with a lot of "server busy" messages. Not that we're bitching, but this site is a part of daily life for many of us, and so when it is messed up, so is our psychological equilibrium ...

No disrespect (or offense) intended toward a mod, but you are the idiot if you think that. The IP most certainly can tell you where the physical server is, and quite easily.

I was able to determine (in about 10 seconds) that the site is hosted by EV1, based in Houston.

Think before you call someone an idiot next time.

LOL, no I didn't think he had the servers at his house.

My clue was that Brains lives in TX, the same state as Houston (where it is hosted).

I think most of us regulars will agree that this is still the hands down best ls1 site on the net...
As someone who has sunk 80k+ on my cars i am thankful for the info that kept me from making HUGE mistakes that could have doubled that number....

We will ride out this speed bump, and appluade you guys when you get the site back in gear

i just wanna know why people are bitching about a site that is provided to us for FREE! If you don't like the speed or the fact that there are a few glitches, then you pay for the upgrades. I hate it when people bitch about something that comes free. Sheeesh!

I'm a general computer/networking tech, and have been for years. I know exactly what an IP address can tell you. I'm not just some guy on the internet talking out of my ***.

No disrespect taken. I know what I'm talking about.

The point is, I've seen plenty of your posts. I wouldn't call someone an idoit after one post(usually). In your case, it was well earned.

Hey Im still on Dial up. No high speed in my area except for DSL (600 installation +50 a month). I never thought 6 miles from the nearest town would have been the middle of no where and not worth running cable this far.

To all of the people who spend all the time they do on this site I appericiate it. There is a lot of good info on here. Its been really knowadgeable.

Very well said...it's like an addiction. I'm very thankful too for the site, lots of good technical info.!

Pruning can help the site...any post with no response over X number of days, gets deleted. The other option is archiving. Both can be done fairly quickly.

There are so many members now, that if the same topic gets brought up, someone else doesn't mind telling the person who is asking.

Obviously not. Because you said,

which is completely false. As I pointed out (and you ignored in your reply) it most certainly can tell you where the physical server is.

Nor am I. I administer several servers and have a lot of experience in networking and programming. What I don't understand is why you decided to become hostile when I pointed out something that was completely accurate.

Well I find it slightly humorous that you can't even spell idiot when using the term to refer to other people, but on a more serious note, if you have a beef with me just say it. What do you mean you've seen plenty of my posts? I'm not a troll. I try to express my opinions clearly but without resorting to name calling. I don't consider myself an idiot but if you do and have good reason to then I would like to hear it.

Saying someone is an idiot "just because" is stupid. If you want to make such a charge then provide facts to support your labels. If you want to continue this via PM that's fine because I wouldn't want to needlessly pollute this thread with a long argument.

My point is, I've seen you become an arbiter in a lot of threads where stupid **** is going on, but in this case you decided to initiate the hostilities with absolutely no basis for doing so. That's just a bit hypocritical IMO.

You think its hypocritical for me to be jumping into situations where people are threatening others, and for me to then get upset at someone at a later date? Sorry bud, but I didn't give up my right to have opinions. I'm not threatening you, nor will I. I have no problem with you personally except that you said something that wasn't quite true. Maybe I made a smartass remark, but thats my personality. Look @ Richie Carbone.......he's a major smartass and I have no problems with him(as long as he's not threatening to kill someone).

However, if you truely think you can ascertain the "phsyical location" of the server by the IP address, we may be mixing definitions. You keep using general terms. By tracing routes you can find the closest you'll get to a physical location. You can trace it back down a logical wire if you can figure out where the packets are going through the network interfaces. Otherwise, the IP address is little but a logical address.

The WHOIS database only gives you IP registration information, nothing to the effects of where the computer that is utilizing that IP is phsyically located(Houston, Tx is a little vague for me. If thats what you define as physical location, I'd be more like the 3rd floor of the corner building of so and so street).

There are ways to trace computers to a physical location, I'll give you that. But its not as simple as typing in one command in a terminal or a windows command prompt unless you've written a custom script.

If you'd like to continue this, feel free to PM me. I'm always up for technical discussions, cars or computers or whatever. I'm going to drop this topic in this thread tho, as its hijacking, and like you said........can't be hypocritical now can I? I have nothing against you personally, keep that in mind.
