cyphur -- calm the **** down, man!!!

In all honesty, its getting easier to track down the physical locale of an IP address (in the USA). First, go to arin.net and search the IP. That will give you the netblock owner. Most netblock owners boast their colo physical locations, and the ones who don't will often give it up with a simple phone call.

We'll be doing whatever it takes to get the site performance back to what you guys have come to expect. The site has sponsors for a reason, and first/foremost that reason is to make sure this site gives them a return on their advertising investment. That return, of course, is this wonderful community we call LS1Tech. If our members and our sponsors aren't able to utilize this website, then we have a problem Thanks for all the kind words in this thread, BTW

...and to add to Brian's comments. I don't think anyone can accuse the site owners here of not spending what is necessary to keep hardware and software updated. We typically have upgraded far before anyone noticed any slowdowns.

The main problem here is that we are hitting software limitations, not hardware limitations.

We'll get it worked out, please be patient.

Just for the record, I don't hold anything against cypher. I told him basically that via PM and he seemed to understand.

And thanks for all your hard work on the site. I'm sure you will have the issues fixed very soon.

would the software be able to do its job better if people took some of the back and forth chatter to the IM programs like AIM and Yahoo!Messenger? that way, it will be less "chatter" passed back and forth and eventually archived. JMO. i am by no maens a site administrator or IT guy.

not really. Its the searches that kill us. Especially the people that do not search using a specific forum or specific time frame to search in. Those that search the entire site, going back 3 years, for one topic really cause the software to cry in agony.

Brains.....I'm cool. All this studyin for my CCNA when he said you can take the IP and trace the physical location I guess I just snapped, lol. ffo and i worked it out, and we're cool. he and i just had different definitions of "physical location" is all, and how we meant to go about finding it

and damn jelsoft needs to get off their *** and start coding some support into vbulliten for better databases.

Yeah no **** I wish it supported Oracle, or even PostgreSQL ... Its not like people haven't been asking...begging... pleading...

FYI - the quote requests are coming in, so hopefully by the end of today we'll at least know when we'll see the site performance come back up to normal

Very well said! This place is great and I've been missing it lately because I get tired of trying to get into the site. I've been back surfing at 'Ol Faithful, Camaroz28.com...

Geez, I certainly didn't mean to turn this crap into some huge discussion, I was fine with I'm not discussing it. haha... I was just thinking and wondering how much of a pita it would be to store those servers at Brains' house. But I suppose it's not even possible. That'd be a heck of a lot of electricity

Anyhow to Zangel. Just as anything in life people talk about things that don't go right and keep to themselves the fact that they are happy. I'm pretty sure everyone is happy about this site, but when something messes up you hear about it. I can't even imagine the amount of work and money that goes into this site. I for one am very thankful, just as most everyone else is too. Thing is you won't see a thread in the user support section saying thanks Brains for all your hard work, or at least I haven't. People take things for granted, and they don't realize what they have until they don't have it anymore.

Yes, Oracle would be nice but I think it would be a HUGE stretch for them to integrate into a "low-end" software package.

Another oddity - I'm getting 3 e-mail notices per new post...for every new post. Is the e-mail portion of the database taking resources from server to send out all these e-mails? This has been happening for the past week.

The other Admin chiming in.

Our process for making changes is to let Brian investigate our options and then let us know which course of action makes the most sense.

I hope that we can address this slowness in the next 48 hours.

Perhaps we need to turn search off in the interim, but I leave that to Brian.

If you're getting multiple copies, chances are very good its on your end. I've looked into this several times before for folks, and each time our mail server logs show the email being delivered only once. Only one guy ever got back to me after-the-fact, and he stated his ISP was having mail server trouble and apologized for duplicates

The mail server is not database driven, so it doesn't suffer the same problems.

Also -- the quotes are coming in on the new hardware. Hopefully we can get availability on the stuff we need so the delay isn't too long
