Question Server too busy??

I keep getting a message saying the LS1tech server is too busy, please check back later. I have seen more traffic on tech before and have just recently started getting these messages. What is going on and how long will it last?

remember we also have the truck site. traffic from there taxes 'techs ability to process requests as well.

the admin group are discussing upgrade options. its not an overnight process.

Because the interest and desire was there. Also, its not just an LS1 site anymore, it spans many platforms. To accomdate that change we split it off from LS1Tech. Right now the physical server can handle the traffic, its the software thats holding back the processes. Configurations are limited by the actual database supported by the forum suite. To add hardware is only a band-aid. This topic has been discussed throroughly in this forum.

https://ls1tech.com/forums/user-support-resources/347114-search-speed.html

This forum is not exempt from the need to search. There are MANY topics that are already covered. Please do not just post up every time because you get an error message, thats part of the internet and web sites. Try to see if the topic has already been discussed.

We don't buy the servers, its less economical. We lease them. To buy the setup we're currently running would be upwards of twelve thousand dollars from what I'm told.

Like I've said, hardware solutions are being looked into for a temporary fix, however the long-term solution would be more software based.

They don't need donations for it, the sponsors bring in plenty to cover it

Brains said extra $500/mo for leasing a third server; no need to purchase one.

Where were you just a few years ago? We didn't have nearly as many people and this site was running much slower. Over the years we have seen some huge advances to this website. This place has grown into something that I am sure the owners never dreamed it would. The webmaster works all through the night making this place something for everyone to enjoy. Hell, the other night he got maybe 2 hours of sleep because he was moving everything over and trying to keep this place running even for the few members that browse in early hours of the morning. I call that dedication! Just because he can't jump when you guys say jump you like to complain? Trust me.. I could show you a few sites alot worse off than we are! Things will get better. They are all aware of the problems. Unfortunately, some people can't devote their lives to making this site faster and I surely hope you wouldn't expect them to. I'm not directing this to just one person... I just get tired of hearing all the complaints and no words of appreciation.

Lol, like it's a secret or something. Anyone can find out from the IP in about 10 seconds.

Small clue: where does Brains live.

The servers are hosted off US 59 near downtown Houston (okay, closer to Greenway Plaza, to be exact).

I live in Katy, heck if you wanted to, you can easily get my address and stop by to say hi

Anyway, back to servers. We're painfully aware of our performance issues, and we're simply hashing out the most intelligent way to spend the dollars before we go ahead and do it. Its not a question of if or a question of affording it, its simply a matter of making the best possible move to make sure the site runs the way we all expect it to. I apologize PROFUSELY that you guys have to go through these painful times, and I honestly take it a bit personally that it isn't running as well as I know it can (and will) be. I don't feel I've done my job well if the site performance isn't something to brag about.

I for one am VERY appreciative. I have been here since the beginning, and will continue to do so. I have purchased ~$20,000 in parts from sponsors of this board. I have been on this board since 11/12/01, member #133 of 42,269 current members. I appreciate that this board is a GREAT source of info, is a GREAT place to hang out, and has GREAT people. One thing has nothing to do with the other....

is there anything the standard user/dialy visitor can do? there are alot of people thet spend an hour a day or more on this site. is there something they can do to help take the load off the few people that have to run the board? i've heard of different websites using remote computers to host a small portion of their site. is that possible? thanx for the good board BTW.
