I've been getting duplicate PM's ......maybe it's my ISP.

Brains - I just want to publically say thanks for all your hard work over the years. I honestly am not sure this site would be what it is today without you taking care of the server and software. I can just imagine this unshowered, old stale pizza eating, jolt cola drinking, thick glasses having, old underwear wearing(only thing ), 500lb weighing dude sitting in a pitch black room staring at a bigass monitor taking care of LS1Tech....as **** plays in the backround. You anything like that?

NOW GET TO WORK BIATCH, THE TRUCK SITE IS SUFFERING!!

OOH....ROFL....I just fell on the floor and hit my head.

Yepper, Brian does good work. It's like he's been getting the performance of an LS7 (oracle database) from a V-TEC (mySQL) for years now.

I hope not, if so Zangel has really low standards, maybe I need to gain some weight get a big dark room, and start drinking jolt cola.

I'd just like to say thanks to Brains too, I don't post alot but I read this board probably 10 hours a day while I'm at work talking to dumb people.

You can limit the search results if the huge amount of data being returned is the problem. How is this software not compatible with Oracle? Can you set up a mySQL db instead?

Ummm... This is a mySQL database; that's the only type of database which vBulletin currently supports, which is the problem. And search results have been limited to 250 items for quite a while (if not from day one), but it still has to look through a lot to find those.

Sorry sorry, just trying to read through all these posts, remember what's been said, and offering whatever help I can. It's been a long *** week thus far, ugh, I already need a break. At any rate, let me know if u're looking for a fresh set of eyes, or the likes, in terms of optimizing the d-base/site as I've had a bit of experience with PHP/mySQL/SQL/JScript/VBScript. I'm more than willing to offer any/all help possible if you all need it

I've got the database server about as optimized as you can get. It runs with less than 4 meg of free memory, and less than 9 meg of total swap usage It trucks along really well until there's a query that does something that takes a long time (search, typically, since its looking at data that won't be in the query cache, and scans the largest index on the table). Once a big query comes in, if someone puts in a request that locks the table (ie. new post, edit post, delete post) then everything stacks up behind that request and waits. The more connections you allow, the longer it takes before the site becomes responsive again. Make the connection count too low, and you see the dreaded "there has been a slight problem with the database" message.

The sites running a lot faster for me today. Did you make any changes or is there just less activity?

There's a higher number of guests online right now, which are typically search engine robots. We disabled search for non-members, which means search engines can't use search (ie. view all posts by xyx user), and are forced to simply follow threads -- MUCH less taxing on the system.

It's slower now than this morning, but still way better than yesterday. Good going once again!
