Default Where to buy shredded cars/steel?

This might be a shot in the dark, but does anyone know any major automobile/steel shredding companies? I want to know of a place where one can go and buy shredded cars/steel by the metric ton.

I know a lot of larger auto wrecking yards perform that type of operation. Does anyone know of any? I heard that a good place to research would be the Long Beach area. That would be preferable because I would need the materials shipped as well. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

They way I heard it was "SRJ doesn't buy smashed cars, he races them, beats them then crumbles them in his hand"

Some places to look in LA on Alameda would be Central Metals, Alameda Street Metals, Atlas Metals, Sunlight Metals. You will get charged up the a** for delivery though.

I don't need the materials now, I'm just trying to get informed on how the wrecking/recycling industry works.

SA Recycling, Terminal Island.

I've seen their auto shredder in action, in person. It's beautiful.

They load up barges there too, so I am sure they have the metric ton quantities you desire.
